NET download

Hi Friedrich,

When installing C7 to a crips new XP Pro SP3 it prompts to install .NET
framework 2.0. I opted to do that and a window shows up that says
"Downloading .net framework. Please wait..." or something to that effect.
No progress bar or anything. Is this normal? Any way to have a progress
bar on that window or is this window part of OS download thing or something?

IIRC, this is a standard SetupBuilder "Wait Dialog...".

I'll review the C7 install project to see if it can be replaced with a
progress bar dialog (or something similar in SB7).

That would be nice. Maybe not a problem for NET 2.0 but I believe that 3.5
is considerably bigger so that might be an issue.

I also noticed that the install terminated after installing the .NET 2.0 and
I had to restart it to run the Clarion 7 install. Is that what would
normally happen when installing the framework?

The NET 3.5 Framework is a hefty 200 MB redistributable. I think it's not a
good idea to handle this download/installation process from an installer
<g>.

I "think" (but I am not 100% sure <g>) that I did not develop the install
for Clarion 7. So I don't have access to the .sb6 project file.

With SetupBuilder, you can download the .NET2 Framework from your web site,
install the Framework and continue the installation process without having
to terminate/restart the installer.

Probably not<g>

Ok. I just wondered. The installer did disappear after it downloaded and
installed the NET framework, but I wasn't at my computer (I was writing the
original message;) so I didn't see what happened exactly.

Tell that to MS!

A couple of weeks ago whilst still in Texas I was asked to set up a MS VX3000 web cam
on an XP pc so we could skype with granddaughter from here in Australia.
Well, son-in-law had had the camera for some time and no one could find the setup CD.
So I went to the MS website and found the install setup there. It was perhaps 3 meg...
Downloaded and ran it.

During the process, it downloaded and installed .net 3 or 3.5... (can't remember
which) There was no progress bar.
They have a pretty fast cable broadband connection at their house.
Even so, the install ran for over 45 minutes!
