All,
SetupBuilder 5.5 is just around the corner and with it comes a revamped user
interface, new deployment options, and many other features.
1. BUG FIXES. SetupBuilder 5.5 fixes all known bugs.
2. REVAMPED IDE. The revamped IDE makes project navigation more comfortable
and effective (see attached sb55_1a.gif).
3. TASK ASSISTANT. The new Task Assistant provides all information
necessary to perform a specific SetupBuilder task more quickly and
efficiently (see attached sb55_2a.gif).
For example, the "Create Web Update" Task Assistant will seamlessly guide
users through the creation of web updates. No need to consult the manual
for instructions on how to use web update.
4. REDISTRIBUTABLE POOL. The new Redistributable Pool provides built-in
support for pre-packaged third-party technology modules and makes
collecting all the right files and registry entries fast and easy. The
initial 5.5 version includes:
* .NET Framework 2.0 redistribution
* Visual C++ 2005 Runtime redistribution
* Windows Installer 3.1 (v2) redistribution
* Windows Installer 2.0 redistribution
* SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine redistribution
* Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1 redistribution
* SqlXml 3.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3) redistribution
* Visual J# 2.0 redistribution
Just add the redistributable #include you need and the third-party module
will be included in your installation project, along with all their
dependencies. You can even choose to download the third-party modules
just-in-time from the Web as needed (e.g. .NET Framework 2.0).
5. MERGE MODULE CONVERTER. The new Merge Module (.msm) to SetupBuilder
Windows Installer (.msi) converter makes it possible to convert pre-
packaged third-party merge modules to installable SetupBuilder .msi
files. For example, Crystal Reports Xi SP2 (NB. Clarion cannot make use
of Xi runtimes installed with Crystal merge modules). The converter will
not be part of the initial SetupBuilder 5.5 release!
6. REDISTRIBUTABLE MANAGER. The new Redistributable Manager will tell you
where to get the pre-packaged third-party technology modules, and allows
for direct downloads.
SetupBuilder 5.5 is scheduled to be released on Monday, June 12, 2006.
Customers with valid maintenance and support can upgrade to the new version
free of charge. A special promotion will be available for customers who do
not have maintenance but wish to upgrade. Customers can contact Lindersoft
Sales for details.
