One of my sites got this message installing my software. Can you tell me why
and what to do to correct?
Thanks

Have them download it again.
I used to have a number of user download issues a few years back... wound up
switching to FTP for downloading which seems somewhat more robust.
But this is why it's good to do the integrity check :)

Hi Jane
I uploaded the file to my net server and got them to do that withthe same
result. Downloaded it my end and again the same result. Finished up copying
the same file from my support pc to the sites pc and it unpacked perfectly.
Weird! Thanks for your comments.

Bit screwed up with this dyslexic keyboard.
I wrote "I uploaded the file to my net server and got them to do that

them to download with the same result."

Maybe Friedrich can explain this one.
I upload the app to my website using ftp.
If it is downloaded with http and attempt to run to install, the integrity
check fails.
Either on the clients pc or on my own.
If it downloaded with ftp, save and run to install, it works fine.
Where do I look? Do I turn integrity checking off?
Thanks
Nev

NONONONONONONONO !

Integrity check is saving your reputation, Bro...
Maybe there's something wrong with your website. But if the integrity check
fails, you don't want someone having a failed installation.

Are you (or clients) running the app from the website, or doing a
right-click Save As... ?
If you do a Save As and look at the file on disk... is it the same number of
bytes as the file you uploaded to your website?

Try downloading my scoring app from my website (HTTP) and see whether the
integrity check fails on your machine. (beachbunnysoftware dot com).

If not, you can send me your app and I'll put it on my website temporarily
so you can experiment and see whether that works where yours doesn't.

Hi Jane
That's an emphatic NO. It was what I expected. I have a number of sites, so
I'll try in one of the others to see what happens. Thanks for the offer.
Users click on a http link to download and save to the desktop. That works
ok. As soon as they attempt to open the file the integrity check kicks in.
Both upload and downloaded file are reporting the same size.
I have just uploaded to two different sites, the original and another.
Downloaded from both. File size the same as the upload to the byte level.
Both downloads installed correctly. I'll try it on a couple more sites I
have and check the results. I have to pin this down to something as I have
never had it happen before.
Many thanks for your comments.
Have a great Christmas tomorrow. It is Christmas eve here in Oz.
Regards
Nev

Same file using Winzip uploads and saves without problems.

Sounds like something is messing up the http stream. Get a utility to
compare the one that you upload with the exe that up download. If they are
byte-by-byte identical, then something really weird is going on. My guess
is that something get's changed in the http download even though the byte
number matches.

I had something similar happening when I was testing a download class in php
and for some reason it would add one or two bytes at the beginnig of the
stream. Never figured out why so I obviously didn't use it<g>

G'day Arnor.
Long time since I used a byte by byte app. Back in the 80's sometime I
think. DOS used to do it also.
Anyway, we'll not worry about it over the next few days.
Have a good one, mate! It is 33c here today and I won't be getting into that
ermine fringed red suit!

I use the file compare in Total Commander. It can compare both text and
binary files and is excellent for stuff like this. I also use Beyond
Compare but I'm not sure if it does binary files - wouldn't be surprised if
it does!

Merry Christmas to ya:)

Hi Neville,

Is it possible that you have your options for upload to that site a
bit different to other sites? For example transferring the file as
ascii?

Best Regards,
Geoff

Hi Geoff
No such luck. All uploads are the same. Think something was damaged on the
way up. I have the two original here and will compare after Christmas.
Have a good one, mate!
