Look at the "COMMON_DOCUMENTS - What did I get wrong" thread on the SB NG
dated 12/28.
I posted this graphic excerpted from the Vista Resource Kit (but pertaining
to XP) and other relevant info about modifying permissions.

JP,
OK, small guess, but for your kind of product (DMC), would it be safe to
say - a MAJORITY probably are XP Admin users by default! :-D
As others have pointed out - living in the XP Admin world was/is
widespread, and, I'm guessing but - corporate structures with XP non admin
accounts probably wouldn't allow those users to get near products like DMC!
:-D
And consider, this - working under Vista - well someone helped you see that
working in a certain fashion, you needed to redesign DMC a bit to avoid
some unpleasant outcomes - n'est pas?

David,
True we all live in an admin world of XP .....
BUT ..... :
ALL Clarion devs who more or less know me are admins in XP (or Vista any
type users) - which I honestly doubt but as you say one never knows
ALL outside Clarion world downloads were also done on admin XP's (or Vista
any type users) - which I more then seriously doubt
No one came to the site downloaded and seing it did not run took one minute
to send an email (after all the tool looks promising but what is this I
cannot even load it!!)
I think we live more and more in a world of tigers and Internet has killed
whatever humanity could exist it would seem ....
I am sure sales figures end january will give me the answer to this question
: 10 k unique vistors this month - heaps of downloads etc etc .....
and yes thanks again to Friedrich would repeatedly told me careful...I was
talking and joking with him and others about installers paths etc ... BUT I
was talking of MY dev machine here and my very personal way of setting up
apps in partitions etc .... and of course NOT of DMC installer whom I
beleived to be bullet proof as far as Visat and all OS's were concerned
well we all learn one day to review our tests and copies sevral times (like
I did with your help for the site btw) ....

JP,
Yes, I would doubt that as well - BUT - consider this - someone tests a
product - never heard of it before (or even if other than Clarion newsgroup
recommendation, etc, not well aware of it) -

it doesn't work as expected - again, my guess, a significant number DON'T
email the MFG - just delete the install, delete the install file - move on.

I know I would do the same thing IF the tool does not work as advertised,
but what would you do if when you try starting it you get two geyed windows
saying language file not loaded and then nothing
You ask yourself questions - at least I would .....and depending on the
interest created "on site" , I would dig and try to get it running
but also sometimes I just uninstall and say to hell with them if they cannot
evenrun the tool ... etc etc .....
I would of thought that from within this community at least "one" brave soul
would have raised his hand .....
whatever it is now last day of year and no time for anything else then good
resolutions for the coming year ...:)
take care

JP,
If "from within this community" - there is "anyone" who uses XP in a
non-Admin role (EXCEPT for testing their own products, etc.), I would be
surprised -

FWIW... I try to test my installations using a *regular* user account on
several "clean" machines (i.e., no instances of Clarion installed) and
several different OS.
Having VMWare makes that easier now.
I also tend just to uninstall somebody's product that doesn't work.... and
to forget about it. Only if I'm REALLY interested will I contact the
company to report a problem.

This is what I will do from now on : I am the admin type of person because
no one else touches my machines so .... I did not even really know what a
limited account was on XP
Well I learnt something here .....
