All,
We need a small test team to test a new SetupBuilder 7 feature.
Background: your installation is running elevated under Vista, Windows
Server 2008 and Windows 7. If you launch an application at the end of the
installation, the elevated privileges are carried over to that application.
But unless an application is designed to be run only by system
administrators, it should always be run with the least privilege! In most
cases, running an application with elevated privileges on Windows Vista
platforms is discouraged. Developers would like to start the application
"non-elevated" at the end of the installation process so it can perform
configurations in the context of the "original" Standard User.
We'll make a new "SetupBuilder 7" beta available very soon. We have added
built-in support for running an application "non-elevated" from your
installer at the end of the installation and would like to test it on
different configurations. We'll make a simple test installer available that
installs a 140 KB "asInvoker" application (developed with SetupBuilder
itself). The installer offers to run the asInvoker app at the end of the
installation and it should start in the context of the original Standard
User.
If you have a few minutes, please let me know. We'll make the test
application available within the next 48 hours.
