It looks like rt_vc2005redist_x86.sbi is artificially and unnecessarily restricting the installation of the vc runtime to Win XP SP2. If I comment out this version check and attempt an installation on vanilla XP (no service packs), everything appears in WinSxS as expected.
Granted, the download page for vcredist_x86.exe does state XP SP2 as a requirement. However, I believe this is due to Microsoft support policy rather than hard technical reasons. Do you have evidence to suggest otherwise?
If not, I believe it would be best to remove this check from the official sbi.
We have a user who is currently unable to install our product because SP2 is unstable on his system.
