Because this is a subject that hasn't been addressed mostly in a very
practical singular example code illustration, I decided to write a blog
that might be useful to Clarion developers in general who haven't adopted
some updated method to get important appdata files and INI files out of
their EXE folders, and into Vista safe folders.

I have updated the blog to include install screen shots as well, so you can
more easily see the overall picture of creating a Vista safe appdata folder
and important areas to address in your Vista compatible install.

If you viewed this blog, prior to March 2, 2009 update (and copied the
code), please revisit the blog and review latest code updates (and copy the
current code).

Arnor Baldvinsson of Icetips Creative pointed me to a single global embed
point that supports both File Manager 3 and ClarionTools ini use, so the
code can now more readily adapted to those who do not use those products.

BTW, my own Product Scope 7.6 - not officially released yet, but soon -
will use some of the very same methods. For some early Product Scope 7.6
screenshots

And it installs to:
C:\Program Files\Encourager Software\Product Scope 7

Friedrich,

Thanks for the compliments!

BTW, I have received significant private email from Clarion developers who
still haven't made the attempt, so hopefully this is a start for many...

One quick thought on your excellent write up. I think it's already time to
get used to the term "UAC safe folders" instead of "Vista safe folders".
"Vista" is nearly history <g> And all what you said relates to four
UAC-aware Windows operating systems now: Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows
7 and Windows Server R2 (Server 7).

Friedrich,

OF Course, you make an excellent point -

How about a slight compromise in the title approach:

http://profileexchanges.com/blog/?p=120

NEW Blog Title -

Clarion programs - Making AppData UAC (Vista) safe and XP compatible

AND this is the first line of the blog.

This information applies to four UAC aware Windows operating systems:
Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (Windows
Server 7).

While it's true, Microsoft intends to bring a much better user and
corporate OS experience with the updated Windows 7 and Windows 7 Server,
Vista is still very much the "buzz word", and one that most would identify
at this point.
