Friedrich,

Is there any support for Active Directory? Any examples?

In the upcoming SB7 beta, the compiler can automatically create a .ZAP file
to distribute SetupBuilder installers through Microsoft Active Directory.

I see there is now a spot for Active Directory in SB7. The help,
unfortunately is the ftp help. I understand this is most likely a work in
progress.

I've two clients that would need this feature. Any tips on making an
install to support AD?

Not the entire band, Russell!
Shirley not...
I'm sure you'll hear band chimes real soon now :)

As for me, though... I have no experience with ZAP files. A quick google
reveals some basic info. Seems they're a way to tell Active Directory to
deploy installations.

This article
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q231747) has a
description.
You can see that the fields in Friedrich's window match those described in
the article.

I just created a dummy setup and asked for Zap, this is what I got:

[Application]
FriendlyName=My Zappo Program
SetupCommand="Zappo.exe" SetupZappo.exe /q
DisplayVersion=1.0.1
Publisher=Beach Bunny Software

Perhaps the band doesn't read posts in threads this old. You might start a
new thread to see whether it drums up any responses. Who knows who might
horn in on our conversation?
Fiddlesticks.

Thanks Jane! That is a start!

I'm a very clever fellow (he says modestly), but I've zero experience
installing AD stuff and my pride does not run so deep to not admit I could
use some guidance <G>.

Friedrich,

Any further data about this? I've got Jane's article on this, but I've had
some installs get overwritten at one site. Of course I get the support
calls when Active Directory overwrites their settings (including the
registration code and reverts to an expired demo). ;-)

To be honest, I don't have a good answer to your question. SetupBuilder 7
supports the creation of .ZAP files to be used with Group Policy Software
Installation to publish non-MSI programs -- what you have to do after that
to publishing a .ZAP file, I fear you have to ask the System Administrator.

I think you have to place it in an accessible share (usually by creating an
"Active Directory Group" with access to this location). The System Admin
needs to create a Group Policy Object (GPO), open the editing screen, select
User Configuration, Software Settings and Software Installation and create a
New Package to the location of the .ZAP file.

Accepting the new package and assigning the Group Policy Object to the
relevant Organizational Unit will publish the application. The User(s) will
then need to log off and back on again to get access to the .ZAP file and
run it.

I think I followed that <g>.

I'll need to do more research.
