First of all, I would like to thank Jane Fleming for an excellent
SetupBuilder Clarion Live! Webinar presentation. THANK YOU! Very well
done.
Deploying any kind of software application is one of the most complex tasks
you face as a developer. It's difficult to prepare an application correctly
for installation on every possible system configuration and provide
deployment options -- especially today with Windows Vista, Windows 2008 and
Windows 7 (the UAC-aware Windows operating systems).
The good news is, there is more to come. Jane is working for us on some
introductory materials for learning to use the powerful SetupBuilder system.
We'll make this available when SetupBuilder 7.0 goes Gold. On top of this,
there are plans to develop and publish more start-to-finish examples,
Camtasia-style videos and tutorials.
Some important release information from the Webinar presentation:
1. SetupBuilder 7 (Final Beta) is scheduled to be released by the end of
next week.
2. SetupBuilder 7 (Gold) Professional and Developer Edition is scheduled to
be released by the end of next month (June 2009).
3. Our Maintenance and Support Subscription Plan ensures that you will
always have the latest version of your licensed installation product without
any additional cost during the term of the Plan. Customers with a current
Subscription Plan will receive SetupBuilder 7 free-of-charge as part of
their subscription plan.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Friedrich,
The current SB7 beta build distributed to the larger beta group displays:
Ultimate Edition (at least the one I received as a current Developer
Edition user)
Do you still have plans for 3 levels - Ultimate, Developer and
Professional?

Very good point.
Because of fundamental changes in the Windows 7 deployment requirements and
the current worldwide financial downturn, we decided to revamp the
SetupBuilder 7 roadmap.
Our goal was to introduce a new flagship edition with SetupBuilder 7 --
Ultimate Edition. "The Ultimate Tool for Power Users" with support for a
Visual Dialog Editor (VDE) including "Event Driven Custom Dialog" scripting,
support for Windows Installer (MSI), Mobile Devices Packages creation, LAN
Update capability and some other nice power enhancements. List price: $499.
But quite a few developers can't spend what they don't have: $499. On top
of this, Microsoft changed the Logo certification process and as a result,
MSI is not required any longer to meet "Certified for Windows 7" Logo
requirements. The Dialog Editor was the most requested feature from the
SetupBuilder community and most of our new customers are moving away *from*
MSI *to* SetupBuilder. Our own proprietary SetupScript technology is, and
will continue to be, our number one priority. There are various fundamental
limitations of MSI and only our own high-performance state-of-the-art
installation technology gives us full control over the installation process.
MSI can only provide 30%-40% of the functionality that is available in our
own SetupScript technology. And SetupScript has already been used in
millions of setup.exe installations with reliable results.
By the way, a new customers with more than 1 million users switched from MSI
to SetupBuilder (I'll write about this soon) and they are already using
SetupBuilder 7 in production.
To cut a long story short, we decided to make the Visual Dialog Editor and
most of the other feature enhancements (except support for MSI, Mobile
Devices Packages, and LAN Update) part of the upcoming SetupBuilder 7
Developer Edition without any price adjustment.

Friedrich,
Thanks for this updated roadmap view.
Always important for successful companies to adjust their marketing and
feature plans according to current and projected trends in a very timely
manner to stay successful.
Hopefully, some of these Microsoft changes will allow your product line to
gain even greater acceptance in corporate environments (where you do have a
strong foothold).

It was a holiday here and your email is still unanswered in my InBox. But
the renewal for your customer was already processed yesterday.

Who said you're allowed to have holidays. <g>
Thanks Friedrich. I'll catch up with you when you've got a bit of
spare time. Hang on, you never have any spare time. Oh well, whenever
you can.
Best Regards,
Geoff

Are there any references or data for the LAN update I can study? I've a few
customers that would need this feature.
