Turn of Read Only for a folder - Help!!

Hi All,

I am not sure what I have done but (an I am assuming this is my fault)
but my last update has set the program folder and the data sub-folder as
read only. I could not find anything in the scrip to indicate that this is
true but the read only attribute can not be turned off at the customer site
or here in my testing.

Can I use the set file attributes function to turn off read only? If so,
how?
It looks like you can turn it on but I don't see anything about removing the
attribute.

Any other suggestions are welcome at this point as the customer is dead in
the water.

Ron,

I believe folders always have the read-only attribute set to on. I would look
to the security settings for the folder contents if you are having problems
accessing the data.

I just took a look at my XP box and all folders are marked as read
only so he must be having some other problems.

Use Set File Attributes for the folder and ensure the read-only is not
checked. That should give you what you want.

make a user EVERYONE by typing (S-1-1-0) - including the brackets and
checkmark the approroate

You may look at a thread in this NG named "Welcome to Babylon" at 21. Dec.
2008. Look for Janes and Friedrichs postings, some have screenshots that
show exactly what to do.

And yes, there is a looooong discussion about NOT to store data into a
subfolder of C:\Program Files.

Recommended is CSIDL_COMMON_DOCUMENTS\your_data if you need to give access
to more than one user.

Reminder: your data are readwritable for all users in these data-folders -
when you are with Vista and up. Under XP (and before) only the invoker as
RW permissions, so you have to grant access here too.

But with Janes description and screenshot its easy.
