Friedrich,
Congratulations to you and Lindersoft Team for a historical release of
great significance!
First glance at this latest release is VERY impressive,
and also of note is the 8.21 MB CHM - Learning SetupBuilder Part 1 - "The
Jane Book" on everything you wanted to know about SetupBuilder, but were
too timid to ask in the newsgroups!
Congratulations to Jane Fleming of Beach Bunny Software and anyone else who
contributed to this amazing tutorial!
You could spend significant time on the Internet researching AND buying a
ton of resource books to get what is assembled in this CHM!
The screen shots (creatively embellished) are some of the best I have ever
viewed in a technical tutorial!
A First Class Tool made even better by an in depth and expanded learning
experience that will only expand Jane's expertise to a much wider viewing
audience!
Couple this with:

Clarion Live! Webinar Video #10
And, SB novices and SB experts alike will gain much from these additional
SB resources.

Hi, Friedrich.
Perhaps this is answered somewhere, but I don't see it.
If I have SB 6.9, and I'm not interested in the custom dialog editor
feature, what else does SB 7 have for me?

Jorge,
PMFJI! - I'd say NUMBER ONE on the list is
"Constant improvements, new features, enhancements, bug fixes, state of the
art techniques to keep up with state of the art!"
Same reason, you keep your SB6.9 license current - Installs are a MOVING
target! -
Not too many months ago - a lot of developers weren't too terribly
concerned with Windows 7 installs - THAT has changed significantly, AND
will increase with great intensity between now and Windows 7 RTM!
Yes, latest SB6.9 build has Windows 7 Release Candidate compatibility, but
again - installs are a moving target - we developers NEED the latest tools
and methods AS they change in the near future as well!
I'll let Friedrich describe some of the many enhancements SB7 has over SB6
- however, let me say this -
Learning SetupBuilder Part I - Jane Fleming's tutorial - included with
latest SB7 build - is NOT ONLY a first class tool for your SetupBuilder
learning experience, but would rival commercial publications covering Setup
Tool techniques!

The full list of changes and improvements is quite long and will be released
with the final SetupBuilder 7 version.
The main new features are the "Visual Dialog Editor" including "Custom
Dialog Script Processing", the "SKU Management Wizard" to maintain a single
project for various flavors of an application or application suite by
filtering actions based on criteria you specify in the IDE, the "Require
EULA Reading" License Agreement option, support for Active Directory,
Firewall Exceptions, better DPI "awareness" (when running the installer on a
non-120 DPI mode machines), runtime variable size increased from 1,024 bytes
(1 KB) to 10,240 bytes (10 KB), the ability to change the icon for your
setup.exe, embed a Windows 7-aware manifest into your applications, and tons
of other new features and built-in runtime functions.
BTW, SB7 also provides support for Charles' SoftDefense.

And of course, one of the top-10 new features is the ability to "Launch
non-elevated under UAC". Most developers would like to start applications
"non-elevated" from an elevated installer to perform configurations in the
context of the "original" Standard User. SetupBuilder 7 provides a solution
to this fundamental problem -- that's the new "Launch non-elevated under
UAC" feature!

Really a great piece of work (as usual<g>) Friedrich!
Just proof positive that sleep is highly overrated<vbg>

Indeed (see attached screen shots)
For those looking in, SetupBuilder 7 interfaces with SoftDefense (our next
release) via a compiler directive in the script editor.
For a look at the #addon.SoftDefense compiler directive, see SDSB1.gif
This simple dialog allows you to quickly create an intelligent link between
SetupBuilder 7 and SoftDefense.
The link allows you to tell SoftDefense to apply Armadillo protection
during the compile (which is something that you can do without
SoftDefense), but it also allows SetupBuilder to do something that can't be
done without SoftDefense - VERIFY the protection that has been applied to
the files!
Then SoftDefense reports back to SetupBuilder at the end of the interaction
so that SetupBuilder knows if there were any errors during the process.
SetupBuilder then integrates the log from SoftDefense right into the
compiler log.
See SDSB2.gif for an example of a normal "Protect and Verify" session
without errors.
If there is an error in either process, SoftDefense notifies SetupBuilder,
then the errors show up in the SetupBuilder compiler log and the compile is
aborted with errors.
See SDSB4.gif for an example of a "Verify" session that had errors.
Even if your a user who applies your Armadillo protection with batch files
or at the end of a Clarion compile, using SoftDefense with SetupBuilder 7
brings you something that you can't get anywhere else ... peace of mind!
SoftDefense is the only tool out there that can verify that the Armadillo
protection has been successfully applied, and now that power is extended to
SetupBuilder users!
As a bonus, you can insert multiple instances of the SoftDefense addon into
your SetupBuilder script.
This can be very useful for projects that have a large number of protected
components (since a single Armadillo project can only handle 6 files).
Additionally the SoftDefense addon provides communication from SetupBuilder
back to SoftDefense with information about creating SetupBuilder Installer
Registration codes and Maintenance codes.
The new Universal Key Generator in SoftDefense makes it easy to generate
both types of codes (even at the same time) for your projects.
Of course SoftDefense can generate codes for the Armadillo side of the
house ... all at the same time.
It can provide these codes to you via the clipboard, or you can call
SoftDefense on the command line from another application.
SoftDefense also creates a file that you can E-mail (in XML, TXT or HTML
format) containing the registration and maintenance data.
This will greatly simply the process of using SetupBuilder and Armadillo
codes.
A lot of work and planning went into making this interface possible
(Friedrich and I have been kicking it around for years<g>) and it is nice
to see it come together.
We're excited about the possibilities for SoftDefense and SetupBuilder
working together, even for developers who don't use Armadillo.
Of course now that we have the nuances worked out on how to bridge the
technologies, there are other cool things that we can do with it as we go
forward.
Many thanks to my good friend Friedrich for making this possible!
:-)
