View Full Version : Comodo - Anyone use them?

Hello,
We are a pretty respectable company .. owning multiple domains, have a DUNS
number since 1997, have a FED-ID for over 12 years, etc. etc.
Sent all our information to them last week ... they asked us same day to
open up our domain, we did within 10 minutes and responded back to them.
Haven't received any other information from them -- of course they did take
our money. <g>
How long would it take to verify that we are the company we say we are ...
we have received no calls.
I would think the process wouldn't take more than 48 hours, 72 hours tops.
What is an acceptable turn-around time on this?

48 hours
Have you posted a support ticket on their site? In case not, check the
screen shots for doing so in my notes:

Russ had some interesting times dealing with them too, IIRC. Push their
buttons.

If Guy Kawasaki and the staff of the Wall Street Journal,
Fast Company & Business Week read it, maybe you should too.

Send them trouble tickets and keep hammering until they get back to you.
I'm told they are the best of the bunch but that doesn't mean it's easy in
any way or form to deal with them<vbg>

The last time I went through the Comodo "validation" process it took
three days which was acceptable to me. The previous time the process
was much faster but it was much less complicated then.

I would recommend at this stage to get Jane's article about how to set up
your private key.

Hi Russ,

I just copy the .spc and .pvk files to my certificate folder and use them in
the #code-sign function. I don't recall any setup needed...

Arnor,
I believe Russ is referring to Jane's instruction on how to use
SignTool.exe - then you will need to create a PFX to use with SignTool.exe.
Here are a few vital lines quoted from Janes CodeSignMay2009 PDF
(ClarionLive)
http://www.beachbunnysoftware.com/webinar/
"Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't allow third-party vendors to distribute
the current code-signing tools.
SetupBuilder comes with Microsoft's old SignCode.exe tool installed, but
SignCode.exe has some issues and may pop up a window that grabs focus when
you're in the middle of doing something else.
SignTool.exe is the new code-signing tool. It and the pvk2pfx.exe tool
that you'll also need are available as part of the (free) downloadable SDK
from the Microsoft website."
Also, for those that ship products with PAD files, you'll need a PFX to
codesign a PAD file so making a PFX file is very handy for more uses!
