View Full Version : Progress Bar for Install Files

I was thinking that the Progress dialog was not working, but now with a
sharp eye, I can see it flash on quickly and off
I do not have anything defined for the progress bar in the script, just in
the tree on left for Setup Appearance > Dialogs
Do I have to program something in the script to make the dialog box visable,
or am I doing something wrong again?
There are many files and the dialog bix is very visable in SB4, unless SB6
is super fast at copying them down. I am also wondering if when the finish
button apears, if it ain't really finished yet.

Dan,
If you look in your script, you'll also see the progress dialog screen there
as "Display Setup Progress Dialog" before the section where files are
installed.
I don't know how SB manages the progress bar internally.
If you wanted to do it yourself, you could go into the script section where
your files are installed and manually insert a few "Set Progress Bar"
elements to force it to a certain percent. (User Interface script items,
"Progress Dialog: Progress Bar" item.)
Check out the "Progress Dialog.sb6" project in the example files to see how
to manipulate the progress bar in your script.

Thanks Jane
Then the progress bar for installing files actually does work without my
intervention.
Just seems to install files awfully quickly

Hi Dan,

Sure does:) But like Jane said, you can also have different progress bar
windows in the install. I had one in a client project I did where we were
doing some conversions, so rather than let the user sit and wonder what had
happened, I added a progress bar dialog before I started the conversion and
update the progress bar 8 times during the process giving an idea what was
going on:)
> Just seems to install files awfully quickly
It does:) I have installs where it just flickers;) But I have installs
where I have about 100 files and there you can see it progress nicely, but
quickly as those are relatively small files:)
Best regards,

Hi Dan,
> Talk about installing the files quickly <g>
Also, if you are installing under Vista, then Vista has a special thing
about progress bars that generally makes them wrong;) Don't know if
Friedrich is doing anything to fix that - I understand that the "fix" is to
update the progress bar and then push it "back" a notch that forces it to
update. Otherwise it kind of has a life on it's own without much regard to
the updates to the control.
Best regards,
