View Full Version : Converting SB6 to SB7

Hi Friedrich,

1. Open a .SB6 file in SB7.

2. Accept converting it.

3. Save the file.

Now observe that the file STILL has a .SB6 extension, thus overwriting the
original .SB6 file. IMO it should change the filename to .SB7 as soon as it
is converted or at least warn that you are about to overwrite the original
file.

Best regards,

Forgot to mention that this will trigger Build Automator to compile the
project in SB6 since it uses the extension to determine what SB executable
to load.

Arnor,

I don't have your product, but should it not be user selectable (What SB
executable to use) for each project - I use the latest SB7 to do all my
install work, but still have projects with SB6 extensions.

You select the project to compile. Build Automator uses the extension to
determine what version of SB to use. It kind of seems redundant to _both_
pick the version AND the project. Since those SB6 and SB7 files are NOT
interchangable I see no reason why SB7 shouldn't automatically convert them
to SB7 files and save them with the SB7 extension. Like I said, that way
there is no confusion and you don't have to check if that .SB6 file is a SB6
file or SB7 file:)

Arnor,

GOOD point! AND, something to add to the User Suggesiton box! (Friedrich?)

(although I think this particular point has been brought up in other
message threads)

I think so too.

The problem for me is that even if I allowed people to select which version
of SB to use (I can probably enumerate what is installed without too much
problem) it would cause problems if people accidentally selected the wrong
version. Since Setup Builder 7 uses .SB7 extension it should do so
consistently for all projects that are converted. I think I may have spent
half of today trying to figure out why a SB7 project with .SB6 extension
caused problems at one of my clients when being compiled from Build
Automator;)
