View Full Version : download to temporary folder (web install) blocked

My web page has one button to download setup.exe which is the same file I
use in CD distribution. The user has to click "save" instead of "run" and
after the save, running the file displays my company as the code signing
dictates. Clicking "run" instead of "save" was not meant to function here,
and results in the same error described below.

The web page has another button to launch wsetup.exe when the user clicks
"run" instead of "save." Without making any change in my web page, that
button now FAILS after I uploaded the code-signed version. If the user
clicks "save" instead of "run" and then LAUNCHES wsetup.exe from the TARGET
COMPUTER, the program runs and initiates the piece-wise download and
installation. That installation formerly happened remotely when the user
clicked "run" twice (no "save" step).

The new error message is titled with my Temporary Internet Files location
and says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You
may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Does the change in behavior mean I put a wrong address into the signing
certificate? Is there some other setting I need to change?

function in all modes on my development machine. The error message occurs
when I access the web page from a different computer.

Hi Kent,

This has nothing to do with your code-signed file nor with the address you
put into the signing certificate!

This is normally due to a flag placed on the file as a result of being moved
from another computer or network. Right click on the executable and choose
"Properties" and look to the bottom of the "General" tab. Here you should
find an "Unblock" button provided to allow normal access to the executable.

Does this help?

Problem solved. Thank you for the QUICK ANSWER.

The file resides on a Unix server when the browser is trying to execute it.
I don't know how to control it there, but I DID change the local firewall
PERMISSIONS for Internet Explorer. Giving IE internet server rights cured
the problem.

You are very welcome!

BTW, Comodo did not send me the SSL order links. We have to wait until
Monday :-(
