View Full Version : Code Signing - no errors but doesn't work

I have completed successfully an install with the Code Signing. No errors
when it compiles and the test runs fine. When I look at the properties of
the installation EXE everything is the way it should be, even have a date -
time URL.

On XP Home and Professional, three different computers and one Vista the
certificate does not show and I am pretty much were I was about a week ago
before I purchased the Cert.

On top of that I have no idea how to correct the problem, whatever it may
be...

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.

The certificate "does not show" for the installer or for your installed
programs?

How are you looking for the certificate? By right-clicking the .exe,
selecting Properties, then the Digital Signatures tab? Running signtool?
Running chktrust?

If you have some fuzzy areas as to what's involved with code-signing, you
might get some insight from the two articles I wrote in clarionmag.com last
autumn.

Hi Bob,

Why not create a simple code-signed test.exe, upload it to your server and
post the URL here?

If an application is code-signed and chktrust.exe tells you it is OK, then
it is OK.

Good Day Jane,
I am right clicking on the installation EXE and seeing the cert and other
information.

I downloaded and ran chktrust with and without the -i parameter. The window
caption is Trust Validation Utility - Security Warning.

If I click on my URL is see all the information I do when I right click the
installation EXE.

The installation file is
http://www.rclsoftware.com/download/setupeasychurch.exe

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Bob,

I have tested this on 9 different machines, running all kind of OSs
(including Vista).

It always says: "This digital signature is OK"

I am sorry, what did you test?

Your signature. Sorry, I thought you had a problem with your code-signing
signature. Perhaps I completely misunderstood this.

Okay, I re-read all your messages. I think you completely misinterpret this
dialog. If the digital signature is *valid*, you will see the following
message:

Trust Validation Utility - Security Warning

Name: RCL Software
Publisher: RCL Software

The above means your signature is OK!!!!!!!

You don't not get any "unknown application" etc. warning.

Does this help?

Thanks, Friedrich,

Yes, it does help a lot. I guess I was looking for something much more
fancy.

You are welcome, Bob.

I agree, the Windows message is somewhat confusing.
