SB invokes Printkey program

Friedrich,

When I double-click on my SB Developer Edition icon it automatically calls
up a TSR program that I have running called Printkey 2000 (screen capture
program) and takes a screenshot.

the sbuilder.exe.

Hi Friedrich,

I have no idea either...but it does it every single time. First time it
happened I was thinking, what's that funny sounding "click" that Friedrich
has built-in at startup now. <bg> (Printkey clicks when it takes a
snapshot). Could SB somehow be emulating a keypress (printscreen or ALT
printscreen)? The SB icon indeed has as its target sbuilder.exe. I have no
idea why it's doing this, I've never encountered it with any other program.
Not a big deal of course, just thought I'd make you aware of it.

Hi Dean,

<g> No, SB5 does not emulate a keypress. It's a standard shortcut created
with Windows APIs.

Does this also happen if you start SB5 from the Start menu or if you
double-click a SB5 project?

Hi Friedrich!

Yes, it happens if I start SB5 from the start menu or double-click a SB5
project. I wonder if anyone else is using Printkey 2000 and if it happens
to them? Certainly, just an annoyance to me, but it does open up the
possibility that it *might* happen with other TSRs or you might get support
questions from others using Printkey.

I asked about the keypress because that is how Printkey is activated.

BTW, I'm using XP Pro.

Hi Dean,

I do not use any keypress function. The IDE starts four threads and uses
NOTIFY a lot.

Is there a Printkey 2000 demo version available?

Thank you. I can reproduce this.

I checked my source codes and found several SETKEYCODE(0) commands. But I
did not add this. I think it comes from C61 HTML template. If I remove the
"Enable HTML Help" extension it goes away.

Any idea?

Sadly, I have no idea. :-( But I am much encouraged that this isn't
just a "me" thing.<bg> Mainly told you to make you aware of the potential
non-sensical support questions that those such as myself are fond of
springing on you. ;-) I suppose it could spring up in other programs.
Certainly a weird one, and it didn't happen in previous versions of
SetupBuilder.

I installed Printkey 2000 and have tested this with SB5 build# 993, then
with an older build #900 and with a very old build #801 (the first beta
build). Result: it always happened with SetupBuilder 5.

The standard C61 HTML template adds the SETKEYCODE(0) command and I fear
there is nothing I can do here :-( Printkey 2000 has this problem with all
C61 apps that use the HTML Help template. SetupBuilder 4 did not support
HTML Help.

A LOT of programs seems to trigger this behaviour. Clarion programs
and non-clarion programs. But only some seem to trigger that popup
window to show up, mainly Clarion programs, but some don't (I have two
1-3 proc. dummy apps that sometimes show the popup, not always)

I tried it with MySetups. The damn thing pops up with EVERY window I
open. Not just that it also pops up for every MESSAGE too:(

I've tried it with Carl Barnes Source Search, same thing, it captures
every window. Even LibMaker compiled in 6.1 triggers it to capture
(not to show the popup window though, it only shows up sometimes!)

I tried it with several Clarion programs that I have, mostly in 6.0
and they all triggered a screenshot, but did not trigger the popup
thingy.

I tried it with Pegasus mail, it also triggers it. FreeAgent does.
Internet Explorer does. PaintShop Pro. Adobe Photoshop...

IMO you should not waste time on this. This is a 6 year old piece of
software (copyright 97,98 and 99) that is obviously not compatible
with most of what is out there today.

Sure:) But it seems that something (maybe in XP???) is triggering it
to take a screenshot every time a program starts (it does that with
most of the software I tried while I had it installed)

I use IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com/. It does much more than PrintKey
2000 and it is FREE as well.

The problem with Printkey being called wouldn't *seem* to be a keypress
emulation...I changed the keys to call Printkey to take screenshots and it
still occurs. Also, SB5 seems to be so thorough in calling Printkey that it
is actually taking a screenshot and saving it to a folder with no input at
all from me.
