View Full Version : Comodo Questions

Hi Guys.
I'm busy applying for my cert through Comodo.
On their site there is a droplist called "CSP", but there are no options in
the droplist. Do I just leave it blank?
The key size defaults to 1024-bit. Is that okay? Should I select
"2048-bit"?
Where do I wish to store the private key? In the CSP or in a file? I don't
know. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!
Gary.

FWIW, I went with a 2048-bit key. (as recommended on page 73 of this
document:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/6/a/56a0ed11-e073-42f9-932b-38acd478f46d/WindowsVistaUACDevReqs.doc)
Store the private key in a file. (Easy to back up onto a CD etc that way).
If you have a clarionmag subscription, you can get a bit of a walk-through
from my second code-signing article:

that series was mostly background.

Aah.. Never mind.. IE7 under Vista had nothing in that droplist. IE7
under XP Pro works fine!

Weird. I just tried with Vista... and as you say - nothing in the CSP
droplist and also the default file name c:\mykey.pvk is not populated.

Who works under Vista these days ? :)
Bug number xxx th ....
Aero and novelty make people install anything it seems !
I know - I know maybe I went too far with this sentence but still - we all
need a Vista testing machine but do we need to suffer from M$ bugs also in
everyday life ?
not my cup of tea ...
XP or 2k3 ent (because I need lots of ram) and vmware for Vista and Longhorn
..... like this I am safe with these kind of small pbs ... and aero again...
:)
This is a free world after all - sorry again if I "talked" too loudly :)
Sorry for bulging in Gary and Jane ...

Hi Jean-Pierre.
I'm 100% with you on that one.. I have a Vista machine set up for
"educational purposes" and to test my software etc, but I'm sticking with XP
Pro as long as possible. I was really surprised to see that Joel
(joelonsoftware.com) also says that he is recommending that his clients
stick with XP!
What worries me is that if Vista and Office 2007 are getting such heavy
criticism that this might influence people to move to Linux, and if that
happens us Clarion guys lose market share!
I'm hoping that Vista SP2 will be more useable.
I've now got my Comodo certificate (I applied last night, and it was ready
this morning!). I've now got my installer signed, and I'm using SB to sign
my EXEs. Do I need to sign anything else besides the EXEs?
Thanks guys!
Best Regards,
Gary.

Gary,
Friedrich recommends signing the Program EXE, Install Program and PAD file.
http://lindersoft.com/order_codesigning.htm
"You can use the same certificate to sign your applications, installations
and your PAD files."
