View Full Version : Edit box grayed out on Windows 2008 server only

Hello,

Our .sb7 installers are displaying all Edit boxes grayed out when run on a Windows 2008 or 2008R2 server. The user has to click on each field to get it to display the preset data, which is an annoyance and confusing to end users.

The same installers display the fields correctly on Windows 2003 and Windows 7. The problem only occurs on Win 2008 and 2008 R2.

Please let me know if there is any workaround or plans to fix this in an upcoming release. Thanks in advance.

Svetlana,

We are also running Win2008 and Win2008 R2 machines, but can't reproduce it here. Quite a few of our customers are running Win2008/R2 and we did not receive any similar report. Just tested it with a standard edit and a custom dialog and it works as expected (see attached screenshots).

Hi Friedrich,

After doing some further testing, it appears the problem is happening only when 64-bit support is enabled. We tried this several different ways, by using the "Enable x64 Support" command in the script editor or setting the Installer Type to "Windows 64-bit" or "Windows 32/64-bit (Hybrid)". Either one of these settings causes the edit boxes to display grayed out until the user clicks on the box. We need to be able to support Windows 64-bit and we can't seem to find a workaround for the display issue on our end. Please advise.

Attached is a demo script using only the default Edit Data dialog and screen shots of the display behavior we are seeing on out Windows 2008 servers. Thanks in advance.

Svetlana,

Yes, we also see this with your project. It seems to be caused by a bug in Windows 2008 / Windows 2008 R2 and I fear there is not much we can do. We'll report this to Microsoft.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply. Let me know if you hear back from Microsoft.

Hi Svetlana,

I think we have a solution to this edit control issue on Windows 2008 and Server 7. The latest development release does not show this behaviour.

Thank you, I downloaded the 7.1 pre-release and recompiled the demo installer. It works fine now. Looking forward to the official release of SB 7.1.
