This may sound odd, but I am wondering if it would be possible to write a
script that would install an app to a flash drive. The advantage to the
user would be the ability to run from any pc that you plug into, the
drawback to the vendor might be security. I would need to deliver to one
customer, without them being able to replicate and give away my software. I
would still need the ability to upgrade the app itself on the flash drive
for my customer. Does this sound doable? My customers tend to have a
desktop pc they work from, but carry a laptop to their work sites. If the
app and data were on a flash drive there would be no issue, just plug in and
work. I am using SB 7.1 but am very new to this, the app is in C6.3 with
ExeShield for security.

U3 drives are designed for that type of thing, Frank. I once downloaded
their SDK but never got around to playing with it.

One option for portability I've used is installing software on a flash drive
and the license on a USB dongle. That requires the user to keep track of
two things and to have two USB ports available.

Some dongles allow you to store executable code on the dongle, but again
I've no personal experience. Here's one: http://www.keylok.com/product/
But storage is limited to 55K.

Armadillo supports a key locked to a USB drive. At one time, that only
worked with license keys sold through Digital River. I haven't kept up my
Armadillo license to the new version, so don't know whether that's still the
case.
