-- A Time Travel into the SetupBuilder History --

11 years ago, in May 1999, Dave Harms published a technology preview of
"Setup Builder V3" in his excellent Clarion Magazine: www.clarionmag.com

http://www.clarionmag.com/cmag/v1/v1n4setupbuilder_preview.html

At that time, Setup Builder was a nice little tool to build simple
self-extracting installations for 16- and 32-bit Windows applications. My
goal was to develop a real competitor to Wise and InstallShield -- but I
had no idea how much work it would take.

Some years later, "The Company Who You Think Of When Creating Software
Installations" tried to take over the SetupBuilder product line and to hire
its development team. They noticed that there was a new promising
installation tool in town that could get them into some trouble as it was
taking away customers at neck breaking speed. But I said "no" to a tempting
take-over offer and decided to bring SetupBuilder (registered trademark now)
to "The Next Level".

In any engineering project, be it a Boeing 747 or a software product, there
comes a point where it becomes worthwhile to take a step back, look at what
works, what doesn't work, dispense with the baggage, and come up with a
ground-up new design. We listened intently to the things our customers had
been asking for. SetupBuilder V5 had a totally redesigned user interface
that made developing sophisticated installations for software even easier
than before.

Wow, have things changed since then! Today, in May 2010, deploying any kind
of software application is one of the most complex tasks you face as a
developer. The very phrase "software distribution" can strike fear into the
hearts of even the most seasoned software developer. Distributing software
is the last, but most critical step in software sales. And our goal is to
help software companies gain as much benefit as possible in this step.

We continued to work harder than ever to produce the best software delivery
tools. The result is SetupBuilder V7.

Any organization planning to move its applications to the Windows 7 platform
will be able to use SetupBuilder to comply with this new industry standard.
Version 7 includes new and enhanced functionality that will further reduce
the time needed by software developers and systems administrators to create
installations and distribute them to end user desktops in any Windows
environment. It provides updates to the easy-to-use "Visualizers" that
includes Lindersoft's point-and-click method of scripting technology for
simple creation of installations.

See the difference between Setup Builder V3 and SetupBuilder V7:

Great plans are in the works for SetupBuilder and Version 7 is a major piece
of what's to come in the future!

We have customers in more than 80 countries around the world now and our
customer list continues to include leaders in aerospace, commercial banking,
defense, entertainment, federal government, financial services, health care,
high technology, insurance, pharmaceuticals, retail, securities, and
telecommunications.

Our story would not have been possible without the involvement of the many
supportive customers who have chosen to do business with our company over
the years. Thank you so much!!!

Friedrich,

You are and will stay (as a few others I talked to also say) a "goal"

connection in the real world out there.

Bravo.

Friedrich,

I Remember the "Early Days" - Amazing strides and advances and growth and
excitement over the years with each new version!

NOW (and for years before)! We depend on the product! And it never ceases
to deliver!

On this page - I'd suggest you consider CSS Lighbox techniques to view full
or larger images

Sure, all software publishers HOPE potential customers WILL download and
test drive - yet - web site information, and particularly screen shots that
illustrate well the product - continue to be a large determining factor
before trial versions are downloaded.

I also want to say thanks for a product well done. I am in the process of
moving my software from c55 to c63. I wasn't looking forward to building a
new install because mine is a bit complicated.. lots of scripts for
different kinds of installs and different selections for the different
installs. So I copied my original script and renamed it.. then just edited
the folders/files.. then edited and checked each script item.... worked
great. I'm a bit paranoid sometimes about editing a script then hoping the
wizard part still works... it used to get pretty bad with Wise.. once you
were doing scripts manually, you'd better stay that way. With Setupbuilder I
can go back and forth and have never had a problem.

It is the Clarion of install programs IMHO.

Thanks,

And with most of the Visualizers (those things in the left column), you can
go back and forth to the script and you can tweak things either place
because they interact. The visualizers actually write most of the script
for you.
