Hi,

My new SB6 install program works fine on xp but with Vista I get Access
Denied on my tps files and the app won't open.

Ideas?

Are the TPS files in some folder within C:\Program Files?

No this is a real Vista Install. They are in Common App Data.

I can run the app if I say Run as Administrator. But I thought my install
would handle administrators and other users.

Just a Vista dumb ass. <G>

ROFL

Reminds me of WC Fields (I think) who said "I wouldn't belong to any club
that would have me as a member".

Try putting them in CSIDL_COMMON_DOCUMENTS.

As I pointed out in a clarionmag article a while back, COMMON_APPDATA
defaults to full control for creator/owner, read-only for other regular
users.

To confirm that that's your problem, manually right-click the folder where
you're storing your data on a Vista machine and on the Security tab give
write permissions to Authenticated Users.

Hi Jane,

That doesn't seem to be it.

The error message says access denied ..\my file name\!my filename2

Lynn,
You're saying
1. Your TPS files are in a folder you've created in C:\ProgramData (AKA
common_appdata)
2. You've right-clicked that folder, and given write permissions (or full
control) to authenticated users or to everyone (pic)
3. You've specified that the permissions should be passed along to any
files already existing in that folder (second pic), i.e., your existing TPS
file.
4. After so doing, you've right-clicked the TPS file, looked at security,
and verified that Everyone has write permissions
5. And you're still getting access denied? But not when you right-click
and run as administrator?

I'll be back to you on this. Thanks so much for the pictures. They are
helpful to this VDA.

Hi Lynn,

>The error message says access denied ..\my file name\!my filename2

Is this a TPS superfile? The exclamation mark indicates that it is
and I'm not sure it supports spaces in the filenames if that's the
case...

Is there something used to set up the filenames that may not be
initialized under Vista?

But he says it works if he clicks "Run as Administrator"... so it seems to
me more likely a permissions issue.

Hi Jane,

Yes, but if the filename setup option (registry/ini/whatever) is not
accessible under vista, the filenames are not going to be correct
which could cause this. "\my file name\!my filename2" is kind of an
odd filename<g>

I agree on that too.

I wonder if I missed a setting in SB6 that grants the proper permissions.

Hi Arnor,

Thanks for replying

No it is not a superfile. Actually the real file name had no spaces.

It has to do with the rights in Vista I believe.
