View Full Version : Delete a file (shortcut) on the destination computer?

How to do this?
I see references to deleting files on the 'Local' computer, but as I
understand it, that's *my* PC.
I can't see how to delete something on the *destination* computer.
Thing is, there's an old shortcut from a previous installation.... details
have changed... so adding a new shortcut will put 2 on the desktop.
I want to remove the old.... used to do it (in my Wise installer) by
deleting the .LNK file, thus my question

Steve,
All installer functions are executed on the target computer, not on your
machine.
So using "Delete Local File(s)" is perfect.

Friedrich,
Ok.. but "Local" means 'here', not 'there'!!
May I suggest the use of Local (here) and Destination (there)?
But thanks for the heads-up....

Steve,
No, local means "there" not "here" because the installer is executed "there"
<g>.
Even Wise names this function "Copy Local Files" <g>.

Yeah - and then the dialog comes up which says "Copy Files on Destination
System"!!!!
(see pic)
The reason they specify 'local' is that the Local (ie here!) PC may be used
to get a list of files, as an option.
From help: "If you specify a local pathname ending in a wildcard in the
Local Path field then the files on your computer will be used to get the
list of files (and their sizes) that will be copied when the installation is
executed."
But it's confusing and plain wrong!
Don't mess with me on Wise <VBG>..... I know it too well.

Steve,
Okay, you win <g>. What you say does make sense. We'll remove "local" from
all functions.
Thank you for your suggestion!

I've got to nit-pick little holes in it - you've done too good a job
with all the difficult stuff <g>
