View Full Version : How does SB handle updating apps running as services?

Say I run my SB install file on a machine and the app it is "updating" is
currently running as a service. Will the service .exe get updated? Will it
be one of those, "This computer must be restarted" type things? And, will
the service run as normal after the update (assuming the programmer didn't
screw something up... :-) ) .
On a side note, I am really impressed with Setup Builder so far. I wish I
had bought it a long time ago!
Thanks,
Don

If the service is running, the .exe and dependency files are "locked". I
would suggest to use the "Edit Service..." script function to stop the
service, then update and restart it.

If you shut the service down before the file update then check for
inuse file, you should be okay.
We do that in our setup.
