The best way to create a Vista aware install is:

1. Force the installer to install in program files\myfolder?

2. Strongly suggest program files\myfolder but allow other folders?

IOW should I omit the install in dialog?

I have always been a "rebel" <BG>

.... but also it all depends on the type of application you are installing

I feel some can "afford" the c:\mydir and others should not .....

Sorry but I cannot help there as I closed that program files pb long time
back ....

Works perfectly under Longhorn too : I was the one Friederich originally
tested some small part of SB on Longhorn on my machine here ....
Now of course MS can again change their code in Longhorn ....

Good question. You could do that (omit the dialog), but all Microsoft
products offer the "Select Install Folder" dialog, so...

I think it's a good idea to display the "Select Install Folder" to give
customers a choice.

That is strange because I could swear that friedrich commented either
privately or publically that when Longhorn arrived, it would not allow you
to install to the root directory? Maybne it will but will not run or
something?

However it seems that the general concensus would be to bite the bullet and
do what MS suggests. That way you will not get bitten at a later date.

I recall what Charles Edmunds said - you waste more time trying to get round
MS issues that just doing it. I have not regretted it and improved my apps
many ways since I adopted the recommended strategy.

What we were working on is that there is-was a bug in Longhorn which
prvented SB to create a NEW directory on root .....

Take a look at this film all is PERFECT in my "rebel" way of doing things
(thanks to Friedrich again <BG>)

It is just that I like to be able to install my apps (even the ones I use
from ouside) wherever I want - I even have a special Program Files PARTITION
as well as Programs Partition in my machine ..... makes much more sense when
defragmenting etc ...
