View Full Version : Question about code signing....

Hello all,

I've been reading the various threads about code signing. One of the things
that caught my attention was the...I'll call it a "background check." This
is where you send copies of the company's utility bills and such I guess to
prove you're legit. Now, here's the question; What about a developer who
works out of his or her home? I don't have bills and such with a company
name. I can have a bank account in the "company name" but that's about it.

What would my options be for code signing in this situation?

Thanks!
Don

Don,

I sent copies of my city and county business licenses and my state use
and sales tax return. Having several websites also helped!<g>

The following Comodo information should help:

https://support.comodo.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1059
https://support.comodo.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=430

And I found the following:

If you are applying for a code signing certificate in a registered company's
name you'll be asked to provide one of the following :

a. Articles of Incorporation
b. Business License
c. DUNS details (e.g. your Dun & Bradstreet company number)
d. A full list of acceptable business documentation from all countries can
be found here:
http://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certificate-support/validation_guidelines_table.html

If the order has been applied for in your trading name (and you do not have
access to the above documents):

a. Trading License
b. Copy of utilities bill / bank statement / check containing your trading
name

If the order has been applied for in your own personal name or the order is
not for use by a commercial entity:

a. Copy of your driver's license or passport

The telephone number provided on the order page must be in service - Comodo
will verify it with a phone call!

Before I started a company I just sent copies of one of my own utility
bills and a recent bank debit note. Comodo accepted them.

Donald,

I did that some years back : simply apply in your PERSONAL name address
etc .... and warn comodo about it and they asked me for a driver
licence photostat copy and that was it ;)
