View Full Version : Panic !!! Nettalk or setupbuilder problem ?

Hi there
Sorry for crying Panic in both newsgroups. I just do'nt know where the
problem is.

I had a customer installing my program (Normal install.exe. The program uses
Nettalk 5, and the installer is made with Setupbuilder SB7 (7.2.2978). The
installation crashed with 'Please insert disk labelled #1'. It was on a Win7
pc. When i tried the same install file ( from www.vipilon.dk) on my Vista
pc, all worked fine.

Now for the real panic.

Meanwhile i had some troubles with another project where i could not insert
the Nettalk templates. When adding them to global includes, i get a lot of
errors. I use NT5 a lot, so i thought it could help to update NT5 to the
newest version. I downloaded Nettalk5install.saf. unpacked it to
nettalk5install.exe and ran the installer. And here i get the exact same
problem as my customer got with my installer. Please insert disk labelled
#1.
I use Vista and C6.3 . I attach two screenshot to show the error when run,
and when pressing Cancel.

I simply have no idea where to look for the error, so any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Probably not the definitive answer<g> but do you have "Enable
Installer Integrity Check" set to Yes?

Hi Lee

Yes, i do. So the 'insert disk' show on my own installer. Problem is that
the same install file works fine with me (and with many other).

Are they downloading the install?
Is this a web install (one .big exe, or one small and many peices) ?

I have had this message 'insert disk 1' happen and just redownloading fixed
it, iirc.

Hi
Just one exe file. My customer tried 4 times without any luck. I then tried
1 time without any problem.

Proxy server cache keeps the bad download for your customer.

That would explain it.
Perhaps Win7 have a similar cache ?

I was thinking it might be a corrupted download but I thought this
setting was supposed to handle that... maybe not.

If you sign your installs I would have thought that too would have
thrown a fit.

But it still sounds like a bad download.

I would think so, too, Lee. On both counts.

This is an old thread where both the integrity check and code-signing were
discusses relative to that message:

Hi Jane
About codesigning, manifesting etc. i have followed a surtain lady's advice
:-)
I just found out that i missed the integrity test so it is added now.

Best regards

A wise man you are, Viggo <g>

SetupBuilder now has the option to have integrity check turned on by default
for new projects.

It's a real advantage - instead of having some users be OK and others have
problems, the integrity check won't let them start the installation if they
have a corrupt or incomplete download.
Of course, then you'll get support calls about a failed integrity check, but
at least you'll know to tell them to try downloading again.

As Lee said... for the customers who have a problem with your existing
installer which does not have the integrity check, you could ask them to
check the digitial signature. I'm thinking it will say the signature is NOT
OK, because the file is corrupted (as shown in the old thread I linked to.)

If there are so many failed downloads, that gives lots of hope in
betting one's entire business on the constant availability of the
internet.

It is signed and manifested, but i found out that i missed the integrity
check. Hopefully it solves it.

Hi

I have partly solved the Nettalk install problem. When looking at
nettalk5install.exe i saw it was only 3.5 MB wich is far to small. I then
ran Safe again, and now it was extracted as 27.1 MB . It was from the same
nettalk5install.saf file , so somehow the safe reader is able to fail.

This should have no influence on my problem with my own installer.

Possibly you ran safreader too early (i.e. while the file was busy
downloading)?

Nah. It was more like 'Ok, Downloaded. Now where did i see that safething
last time i needed it'.
It may be a too old version of Safe Reader. It is version v2.19
