View Full Version : a tip please ?

Hi Friedrich,

Could I please ask you for a tip ?

It seems I will be shortly doing a webinar (on clarionlive if possible)
on how to install clarion7 and work in c7v6 with real SV clients
"cases" as a few asked me for help

Some of them have a 32 bit OS and a fully working c6 already installed.

As you maybe know (from my persoanl experience) I *very* highly
recommend not to install c7 and let it detect a *working* c6 but on the
contrary to create a NEW (copied) folder to have maximum security and
*not* to allow c7 to even know your working c6 exists (one never knows)

In such a case all can be manualy done but it would be "kewl" if the
VistaFix you kindly did and released could also be applied to a 32 bit
OS to _switch_ from working c6 to c7v6 folders when installing
templates from 3rdparty sellers.

This would allow those users to either install c6 or c7v6 depending on
their needs - even if they have to install twice it would be more
secured than all "eggs in the same (c7) basket".

Would you please be kind enough to let us-me know if doing a special
Vista32 is possible (and needed) or if a few settings in registry plus
win.ini file are enough ?

Hi Jean-Pierre,

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no experiences with the Clarion 7 "c7v6"
mode and I have no idea what has to be done to "switch" from working in c6
to working in c7v6 mode.

The original C6 install is not UAC-compliant and the "VistaFix for C6"
corrects the installation issues. It makes WIN.INI and Environment Variable
modifications.

Hi Friedrich,

The c7v6 mode only requires (in my "case") and question to be able to
change those registry settings and win.ini ones from folder A to folder
B

Let us say c6 "working" is installed in c:\clarion6
Let us say the user creates a new partion d:\ to receive clarion7 (and
a copy of c6)
Let us say he *copies* his "working" c6 to d:\clarion6
Let us say he installs c7 to d:\clarion7

The "switch" would simply be to change the registry and win.ini
settings (as you do in a 64 Bit OS) from c:\clarion6 to d:\clarion6
so as to allow him to install a template in c:\clarion6 or in
d:\clarion6

all the rest is the same as for c7 (or dealt with during the webinar)

I hope this "enlightnes" you better ?

sorry for the first badly explained "problem"

Hi Jean-Pierre,

The "VistaFix" does not touch the registry. But in theory, you can
uninstall the "VistaFix" and then re-run it to make the "switch". But this
time, set the folder to d:\clarion6.

BTW, if you start the VistaFix and it is already installed, it should
automatically offer an uninstall.

ie the only required setting for the installers to "find" the c6 path
is the win.ini one ?

if it is the case that is easy to change manualy if need be (or with a
batch file)

Hi Jean-Pierre,

If the batch file is "running" elevated, then yes, this should work. I
think some 3rd-party developers also make use of the registry item, so I
would change both the registry and the WIN.INI in your case.

Could you please just let me know which registry item to also
check-change ?

Merci

Hi Jean-Pierre,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SoftVelocity\Clarion6 -> root

The original C6 installer creates this item.
