Default Registry entries for User Name and Company Name during program Install

Does anyone have an Idea where I can set the default User Name and Company
Name in Windows 7 so I don't have to kley it in every time I install a program.
I have tried setting the DefName and DefCompany registry entries but they
don't work in windows 7. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Gary,

I think most installers don't take this information from the machine, but
rather store it themselves.

What we do in our ProSeries tools is ask the user for the information, then
we store it (with SetupBuilder of course) in the Registry.

Then if you install an update to the product without uninstalling, we
retrieve the previously stored information and use that as the "defaults".

However if you uninstall, the Registry key is removed (as it should be
since the installer created it) and a subsequent install would require it
to be entered again.

Over the years I have installed thousands of programs, and almost none of
them have ever picked up the user name and company name from the computer.

Not the answer you were looking for I am sure, but food for thought...

The "RegisteredOwner" and "RegisteredOrganization" information is stored in
the registry. Beginning with Vista, both items in the registry are set to
"Microsoft".

To set that information, the owner of the machine has to change the two key
entries RegisteredOrganization and RegisterdOwner in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.

Hello Charles,

Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate it. The thing that threw me was that
it defaulted to Microsoft on the installs. I figured if I could find that,
at least I could change it to my information....... getting lazy in my old
age.

and oddly enough they are set to my name and company information - is ther
by chance another location that could be getting called?.

This could be too obvious, but I'll ask. Do you have a 64-bit Windows 7
operating system? You have to check the Wow6432Node in this case, not the
"real" 64-bit entry.

I bet that it is set to Microsoft in this 32-bit key ;-)
