I'm curious how installs on done on mobile devices, mainly because I've never

Don't ask <g>
We have a wonderful Pocket PC Deployment component. This allows to compile
over-the-air standard CAB file technology Pocket PC installations. It can
specifically target installations for Pocket PC Windows Mobile devices.
But this is a dead-end and completely worthless now. The Windows Smartphone
market prior Windows Phone 7 (WP7) is dead. And the WP7 installation
requirements are not compatible with the old technology. To make it even
worse, you can't simply send an application over to your customers' WP7 (or
WP8 in the future) phone and install it. You have to submit your
application to Windows Phone Marketplace and share your revenue <g>.

What!? No sideloading apps on W7 phone? Say it isn't so! Viva la Android!

Unfortunately, it's true. But Microsoft WP7.5 (Mango) is a bit more "open"
than Apples iOS.
You can officially "unlock" your WP7 phone and then install up to 10 of your
own applications.

But it does not work 100% (yet). Lots of problems with all the different WP
devices. And IMO, it's not a good idea to ask your customers to buy a
"token" from an "organization" (from the "jailbreak community"!) just to
install and use your Windows Phone software.
Not sure where all this will end. There will definitely be a Windows Store
app market for Windows 8, so I fear WP8 will be a "closed" system similar to
Apple.

Is that in the Developer edition somewhere - I've searched the Help file and
pdf and can't see it?

This feature will never see the light of day in SB :-( It's obsolete.

Hi Friedrich,

That's a shame - I don't suppose there's any chance of adding it as an
'obsolete unsupported' feature?
There's still quite a few PDAs etc out there.
We have a Clarion.NET app for HP iPAQ PDAs and building/configuring the
installations using CabWiz etc is not my idea of fun :-)

I fear there is no chance of adding it to SB :-( The problem is that the
pre-Windows Phone 7 market "disappeared" overnight -- and the new WP7/WP8
technology is not backward compatible.
It was even possible to install the .NET Compact Framework 2 from the mobile
SetupBuilder installer. What a waste of development resources... :-(
BTW, at the moment, we are doing research work on Windows Phone 7 and
Windows 8.

Sounds like that stole a page from Apple's playbook <g>. On the bright side, they
at least do some marketing for you. Thanks for the info,
