View Full Version : Clarion Has Not Been Previously Installed?

Hi all

See attached.

I get this from time to time - after installing 3rd party templates.

This morning it happened completely out of the blue!

Now the question is - WHY?

I fix this by copying C60EE.dat and C60EE.ini from a "safe" place.

Hi Johan,

Do you have Clarion 6 installed on a Vista or Windows 7 computer? And if so did you run the Clarion
6 Vista Installation Fix made by Friedrich Linder? See: http://lindersoft.com/c6_vista_fix.exe.
I am not sure if it is needed to run on Windows 7, but on Vista it is needed.

Here is Friedrich's original discussion - WHY the fix is needed:

http://www.lindersoft.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18582&highlight=Clarion+UAC+Installation+Fix

Partial quote:

"The original Clarion 6 installer is unable to write to the WIN.INI file
and to update the system path environment variable on Windows Vista,
Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. These actions require a UAC-aware
installer with administrator execution level privileges."

C6 Installer is from the PRE UAC aware installer generation! So, it's
needed on both Vista, Windows 7, MS servers based on updated UAC awareness.

Ok I ran the fix - now the box asking for Name, Company and serial no
does not appear BUT now Clarion does not work - you can try and open or
pick or new - nothing happens. Can somebody please supply me with the
relevant excerpt from their Win7 win.ini file? Maybe that will help me.

Clarion 6.3 9058

Hi Johan,

These lines are in my win.ini:

!****
[Clarion 6.0 Enterprise Edition]
bin=BIN\
workdir=C:\CLARION63\BIN\
root=C:\CLARION63\
exename=C60EE
!*****

The file is located in:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows
I manualy edited the lines from short names to long names.

I also set in the file C60EE.ini the option:
UseLongFilenames=on

Funny - my win.ini is in C:\Windows
Using Win7 32 bit Prof Service pack 1

[Clarion 6.0 Enterprise Edition]
bin=BIN\
workdir=c:\Clarion6\BIN\
root=c:\Clarion6\
exename=C60EE

Since applying Lindersoft's Fix my Clarion does not work at all.
Cannot Select or Open or New - nothing happens!

Is your path set in the environment variables?

Here is my path:

c:\clarion6\bin;c:\clarion6\3rdparty\bin

I've been using Clarion 6.3 on this PC for more than 12 months without a
problem - well except that when I updates rd party templates I would get
"Clarion Has Not Been Previously Installed" I fixed this by copying
C6EE.dat and C6EE.ini from a backup - that always worked.

But now - after running Lindersoft's FIX - now Clarion does not work at all.

Koen,

If you run Lindersoft fix a second time - it (fix) uninstalls - does that
help?

AFIAK will re-running not work, that will install it again. Maybe you van try to uninstall instead.
And happens if you rollbach the last third party install?

You have to install Clarion and then apply the fix.

The "Vista fix" adds the required WIN.INI entries and Environment PATH
entry. The fix will definitely not "destroy" your Clarion environment (if
you select the correct Clarion folder). More than 12,000 downloads in 3+
years and not a single similar issue.

And if Clarion has been in use for more than a year on the same PC -
what will it change in the WIN.ini and Environment PATH - that wasn't
there before?
Thx!

Hi Johan,

The tool asks for the Clarion installation folder. It will then make the
appropriate entries in the PATH and WIN.INI to fix the installation issues
(caused by the not-UAC-aware C6 install). In other words, this "simulates"
an UAC-aware installation.

Hi Johan,

I don't believe that the Vista fix has broken Clarion. It has served many others and me well. But it
wasn't the right solution for the problems you already had.

You mentioned yesterday:
>Funny - my win.ini is in C:\Windows
>Using Win7 32 bit Prof Service pack 1
I checked and indeed I also got these lines in C:\Windows\win.ini. So in my case it is in two
different win.ini files. Only the order is different, which probably is a indication it is not
written to these files at the same time. I also run Windows 7 - 32 bit - SP1.

It might be worth checking what is in your win.ini file in:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows

If that doesn't help some things come to my mind:
- Did you already tried to start Clarion directly from the map C:\Clarion6 instead of the shortcut?
Maybe to shortcut is broken for some reason.
- Delete (or backup) the file C60EE.dat. It will be rebuild on the next start of Clarion. You might
need to register the database drivers.
- Rename the C60EE.ini. I am not sure if it will be rebuild when starting Clarion again, but it is
worth a try.

I hope this helps a bit.
