I tried to install a service during a SB installation, and it failed with no
errormessage. Then I tried to run my program with administrator rights and
self service. SelfService threw a long error which told me I didn't have
sufficient rights to install a service. Never saw that one coming.
How do you install services to Vista?

Bjarne,

I think this is not an "installation" issue. It installs fine but then you
cannot start the service because Windows Defender "protects" the system.

Start the Vista Component Services application (comexp.msc) and check the
Windows Logs (Systems). This should give you more information.

You have to manifest and code-sign your service. Also make sure it is not
an interactive service.

Does this help?

Bjarne,

To install a service on a Vista box do this :

1. Take your original Microsoft CDROM installation
2. Check if it is written Vista on it
3. If yes then select the one with XP written on it
4. Insert it in cdrom reader
5. Reboot your computer
6. When prompted to Install XP say click on 'YES'

Live ever hapily ....

Sorry could not resist this one .....services on Vista are a headache as it
is another way for M£ to claim their OS is safe (prohibit such installs)

Good one.
It turns out that some of the services I install worked perfectly. The
difference was that they don't require a user interface, which I have read
is not allowed on Vista. So, I guess I have to add a NetTalk webserver
extension to everything :)
