Setup Builder incremental locator.

Hello SB fans....

I think a good feature in setupbuilder would be the possibility to have
an incremental locator in the file selection window. Up until now it
only has a step locator which works ok if you only have a few files in
the folder you are searching but if you have many files it really
becomes a pain to try to find that special tps file, or configuration
file you have to add to the install.
Of course this only happens when creating a new project since once it's
done, all I do is recompile the project over and over which is as easy
as pie.
I would like an incremental locator added that is as powerful as the
teamviewer transfer files incremental locator, where no matter by what
column you order the files the incremental locator will still find your
file.
Anybody wish for this too?

Yep. Drawback is that you can't tell easily WHAT files match. I used
to use that but no longer - that way I know for certain that I've
updated the correct disk file since the stamp and size change.

I see what you are talking about...
once in the destination folder you can have wildcards.
not exactly the same thing as searching for a file incrementally on the
source side....

I asked for this several years ago. Not sure what the objection is, but
there appears to be an issue or challenge somewhere. Maybe performance,
maybe priority.

Russ - Not the same as wildcards, which has as lot of modal back and forth.

Every time a new version of Setup Builder comes out I check to see if we
have an incremental locator for the file system.
It's been about 3 years that I wished this was true.
Please put some consideration into this, or if a locator is not
possible, at least some kind of file limiter field so that we can get to
files easily.. thank you

The "Filter List..." feature does not help in your case (see attached
screenshot)?

If we receive multiple requests for the same feature then chances are that
it might get a higher development priority. But we have received only three
requests (1 x in 2006 and 2 x 2013) for this "incremental locator" feature
and so it's not even in the top 200 :-( I completely forgot about it,
sorry.

I remember that I played with the incremental locator idea last year. But
SetupBuilder is a non-Clarion-template driven product (pure hardcore
hand-coded) and to be honest, I haven't found a way to add this feature to
the "Files and Folders" list without breaking working code.

The filter idea is not going to work..

usually I'm trying to find a dll file or a tps file among 100 or so
files that start with the same letter...

I was thinking as a filter maybe add the filter box at the top of the
list files that contain a certain word would be easier than trying to do
an incremental locator and that way won't break your code.

Actually the first time I mentioned it was back in January of 2009 with
subject "jumping..." so maybe that would make 4 mentioned requests <G>

As far as convincing other folks to think this a great feature, I'm sure
it can be useful to a lot of folks. It's just the way windows works,
and would like the same kind of functionality.
