NO!

Friedrich is AHEAD of the curve (as usual)!

Your copy of SB8 has C9 detection built in.

Check the box on the advanced tab of the Clarion detection dialog and your
off and running.

Then you can check "IF %SB_RETURN% Contains Clarion 9" and your golden.

I just received my C9 beta link and have downloaded the install image.
