I guess it is time to get up to date and code sign my app. Not looking
forward to going thru this. One question, would it be easier to set up
under my personal name or my company name.

Don

I would suggest the Company so long as:

1: Has a website showing Contact details (a real phone number)
2: the domain name registration is NOT Private and shows the same phone number as
your Contact page. (You may need to temporarily make domain registrant details public
whilst you go through the process.)
3: Company details are up-to-date in any Duns/Credit/Company reporting authorities and
details all match your Contact details.

Thanks John,

Good tips - Company is the route I will take since the website, etc. are
with the Company. Checking that the phone numbers and everything is all in
sync.

One more thing.

Use an email address that is something like DonH@yourcompany.com or
Support@yourcompany.com when applying at Comodo. The email address should be at your
company, not gmail or ????.rr.com

<petpeeve>Yes, companies who use PO Boxes are known criminals whose mail is
insecure.</>

Don,

In addition make sure any local or state business licenses and/or
sales & use tax accounts are up to date and also include the correct
information such as address and phone number.

Or they want to use a PO box because its secure vs a street box, or they
dont want their address to change every time their office moves.

Refusing to do business with USPS PO Box users is like trying to refuse
business to those who want to use US currency.

+1

And the WHOIS telephone number requirement is stupid, too. The number has
to be listed in local phone directories. So I had to temporary change the
number in the WHOIS database, they called me to verify my identity (they did
not care whether I was a registered partner for a very long time; they
simply follow "the rules"), then issued my new certificate and 30 seconds
later I changed the telephone number back to its original. Don't think
about the logic behind it, just accept it. Argh! All this is killing me
sooner or later.

You can quote me: "I would rather have a catheter the size of a garden hose,
before I register for a new code-signing certificate."

The bad news is, without such a certificate, you can't do any serious
software development today! Spread the power of the Dark Side all over the
galaxy!

Okay, back to "real" software development work...
