Clarion 9 Developers Only!

I have uploaded an updated "Clarion 9 Manager" (Build 9.1.10655.1) to detect
the status of your Clarion 9.0 and 9.1 environments.

This is a FREEWARE tool.

http://www.lindersoft.com/projects/C9_Manager.exe

How to interpret the reported values?

- Windows System Type

Displays the detected Windows operation system type (x86 or x64). Status is
"OK" if operation system type detection succeeded.

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable

Displays the detected VC++2005 redistributable version. There are still
some Clarion developers who do not accept the offer to install the
"Microsoft Visual C++ 2005" and/or the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008"
redistributables. Even if you already have a VC++2005 and/or VC++2008
component installed, your Clarion 9.x system needs a specific version! The
required VC++2005 libraries are not a core component of the Windows
operating system. Status is "OK" if the required VC++2005 redistributable
is installed.

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

Displays the detected VC++2008 redistributable version. The required
VC++2008 libraries are not a core component of the Windows operating system.
Status is "OK" if the required VC++2008 redistributable is installed.

- .NET Framework 2.0

Displays the detected .NET Framework 2.0 version. Status is "OK" if the
required .NET Framework is installed.

Note: The .NET Framework 2.0 is not a core component of the Windows 8.1
operating system. The Clarion installer can download and activate it for
you. Do NOT try to use your own .NET Framework 2.0 redistributables!

- Clarion 9.0

Displays the detected Clarion 9 build number. Status is "OK" if the Clarion
9.0 IDE is correctly installed. Status is "OK (UNREGISTERED)" if the
Clarion 9.0 IDE is correctly installed but the serial number has not been
verified yet. Start the IDE and enter your Name/Serial Number and press
"Validate" to register your product.

- Clarion 9.1

Displays the detected Clarion 9.1 build number. Status is "OK" if the
Clarion 9.1 IDE is correctly installed. Status is "OK (UNREGISTERED)" if
the Clarion 9.1 IDE is correctly installed but the serial number has not
been verified yet. Start the IDE and enter your Name/Serial Number and
press "Validate" to register your product.

- NOTES:

1. Clarion 9.0 reports "9.1.10638" and "FAILED!". That means, you have
installed the C9.1.10638 pre-release (ALPHA) over your existing C9.0
product. As a result, you have overwritten the C9.0 (Windows) registration
information.

2. Microsoft Visual C++ reports "0" and "FAILED!" but Clarion status is
"OK". You have skipped the VC++ installation step or you have uninstalled
the VC++ package.

Friedrich,

I am getting OK(UNREGISTERED) on Clarion 9. When I look at Help/About it
shows "This Product is Registered to: Bob Robesky". If the serial # has not
been validated, how do I go about validating it without wiping out all my
settings?

TIA

Bob

I think you have different user accounts on your UAC-aware machine and you
ran the Clarion install(s) and the Clarion 9 Manager tool from different
accounts or different execution levels.

You can right-click the old 9.1.10655.1 and select "Run as administrator" or
download the new 9.1.10655.2

http://www.lindersoft.com/projects/C9_Manager.exe

Does this work?

Hi JP,

I think you have different user accounts on your UAC-aware machine. Perhaps
an Administrator account and one or more Standard User accounts. Did you
run the Clarion install and the Clarion 9 Manager tool from different
accounts or different execution levels?

IMO, this is a perfect example for a situation where a non-elevated
application can't get access to the required information. The application
has to run elevated in this case. I have changed the permission level and
it requests administrator execution level privileges in Build 9.1.10655.2
now.

You can right-click the old 9.1.10655.1 and select "Run as administrator" or
download the new 9.1.10655.2

http://www.lindersoft.com/projects/C9_Manager.exe

This should work fine even on a multiple profiles machine.

Hi Fredrich,

Sorry but no different accounts here and all versions are always
installed from my main and only account 'administrator'

v2 gives the same results (unregistered)

BUT (maybe) UAC is turned OFF here in my dev machine

I'll restore it and retest to see if this changes results

In theory, UAC on/off should not make a difference.

Clarion 'auto-detection' tries to access
CSIDL_APPDATA\SoftVelocity\Clarion\9.0\ClarionProp erties.xml. Do you see
your serial numbers for C9 and C9.1 in this file?

Friedrich

NO idea about this but yes the serials are in the ClarionProperties.xml
file as posted yesterday

ONE SEC

since I uninstalled and installed latest now I do have a 9.1 folder ???

C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\SoftVelocit y\Clarion\9.0
This file has BOTH serials

<Properties name="SoftVelocity.Lic">
<Serial value="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" />
<Name value="JeanPierre Gutsatz" />
<ClarionSharpSerial value="" />
<Serial_9.1 value="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" />
<ClarionSharpSerial_9.1 value="" />
</Properties>

no
9.1 is for the topscan.ini file ONLY

> CSIDL_APPDATA

Hi JP,

I'll send a private Clarion 9 Manager executable with a debug message box to
display some more information. I have tested it with UAC enabled/disabled
and on different user accounts (Administrator/Standard User) and it always
accessed the correct .xml file here.

Hi JP,

Definitely not your machine. It's the size of your ClarionProperties.xml.
The buffer size in the SB Clarion 'auto-detection' feature is too small
:-( and it does not read enough information from the file.

:-)

New dynamic memory allocation added to "Clarion 9 Manager" Build
9.1.10655.3:

http://www.lindersoft.com/projects/C9_Manager.exe

This should fix it for ClarionProperties.xml configuration files larger than
10KB.

BTW, if a 3rd-party developer makes use of the "check for registered IDE"
functionality in SB, please drop me a quick note because you need an updated
SetupBuilder 8.1 compiler. Otherwise, you'll see something similar to the
attached screenshot on machines with ClarionProperties.xml files larger than
10KB.
