View Full Version : 3rd party SetupBuilder installers

I noticed the following on a few product installs, several vendors:

========================
Recently, I installed a few updates to some 3rd party products. Each
had "Detect Clarion Version Automatically" checked. As a user of these
installers, for some reason, I never trusted that setting enough to use it.

As it turns out, I was justified. Each installer had Clarion 9.1
selected. So? Well, 9.1 has never existed on this machine! (not yet)
========================

Friedrich's response is as follows:

Background: The first internal Clarion 9.1 Build 10638 alpha *replaced*
the Clarion 9.0 environment. Both C9.1 and C9.0 shared the same Product
GUID.

As a result, an installer build with Clarion 9.1 Build 10638 enabled
detection displays "Clarion 9.1" even if only Clarion 9.0 is installed.
But SoftVelocity changed to a true co-existing installation model in
Clarion 9.1 Build 10655 (this is a fundamental change!). The vendors
had to recompile all installs.

You should report this installer bug to the vendors of the 3rd party
products because they are not using the latest Clarion 9.1 and SB versions!!
========================

Just a heads up for any vendors who don't have the latest SetupBuilder
and working with 9.1

Russ,

As Fredrich told you - his installer can be trusted 250% blindly and
your trust .....

The sellers had not compiled with the good tools

you "forgot" mentioning this main portion of Freedrich's answer :

"Russ,

You can trust that setting 100% and it is not a glitch in SB. The
vendors of these specific 3rd-party installs are not using the latest
Clarion detection method. They are still using a detection method from
an early Clarion 9.1.10638 pre-release. The vendors simply forgot to
update to the latest Clarion/SB versions."

Just so that others do not start thinking SB installer is not 250%
reliable ....

I know what he told me, this post is a nudge to vendors who don't have
the update. So its only fair I copy my question and his answer in context.

Yes Sir

I had understood the nudge and this is why I allowed myself to also
"correct" your portion copied about the feature not being "reliable"
(as you do not trust it) as .... just another nudge <g>

Hi Russ,

All our current builds should be with the correct (updated) SetupBuilder,
but if you find one that is not
please let me know.

cheers
Bruce
