View Full Version : Using Compiler Variable as a "Unique Serial Number Generation ID " in User Info Dialo

I am trying to use Compiler Variable as a "Unique Serial Number Generation
ID " in User Info
Dialog (in sintax like [VARNAME]). But got an error. It seems that name of
Compiler Variable itself used instead of Value of variable. Is it possible
to use in this way and how (if so)?
The same thing for the other Dialog screens (when there is a password/ID
fields).

Hi Gennadi,
You cannot use runtime variables or compiler variables in the "security
entry fields".

Hi friedrich,

Strange. But it works... ?
For example, let assume that I have
[PRODUCTNAME]=MyProduct
I put like
[PRODUCTNAME]secret
in the "Unique Serial Number Generation ID " in User Info Dialog and after I
put "MyProductsecret" in the Serial Number Generator tools and it generates
me a range of Ser.numbers. After I use this generated Re.number in my setup
file and it works...
Am I wrong?

Hi Gennadi,
Hmm, you are completely right! It works. We included experimental support
for it several builds ago but never made it public.
So it's an undocumented feature at the moment <g>.

Does that mean that it could go away in the future?
