Well, it wasn't too bad.
I used chrome because for some reason my IE blows up on my win 8.1 computer.

Bought the certificate.. followed the instructions. I had a D & B number
already... they are free by the way.

Had to shut off private protection on the website for the domain I was
using for my email. I guess I could have gotten a letter from domains by
proxy.. but I am impatient and didn't know what that would be like.

Comodo was fast. First, I didn't get my whois showing up correctly. The
data has to match perfectly with what you type in when you order the
certificate. They needed me to change my company name on my whois to
match.. did that and responded.

Then they wanted to call me. Sent my biz hours, they called within an
hour. Verified.. then got the certificate. As I said my IE wasn't
working, so used chrome. There was a button at the top of the browser
below the address bar to view my certificate. I made sure I didn't lose
that browser tab before I was done because I really don't know how to
get there from here.

Did the copy to file (which is an export). From here I followed the
instructions here:

https://support.comodo.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/548/0/converting-a-pfx-file-to-spc-and-pvk-files

Pay attention to the first part that tells you what to check.. check
nothing under the radio personal information exchange.. at least that's
what I did.

It will ask for a password... this password is used for all extractions
and conversions to and from the .pem files. It is also used for the
setupbuilder password when signing.

By the way, I went to dos to run the openssl commands. This is a new
machine 8.1 64bit and evidently it has openssl on it already. But when
it asks for a password and you type.. you will see nothing.
Trust the force.

You have to edit a file... edit it in notepad... you will need to scroll
to the right and delete everything before the ----Begin private key..
save as the same file name. I used vmtkey.pem for the key file and
vmtcert.pem for the certificate.. they are temporary I believe as you
use those files to actually create the spc and pvk files.

The screens in Chrome don't exactly match what IE looks like for
copying/exporting the cert (looking at Janes docs)... but close enough.

Hope this helps... anyone have anything to add or if I did something
wrong I'll be sorry for.. please respond.

Hi Ray,

IF you have problem with Comodo let me know. Sue knows a guy who works
with them and knows a guy who works for them (yeah, it's that kind of
thing;) Their stories make your skin crawl - but they help make things
happen and work<g>

Best regards,
