View Full Version : User Authority after install

Hi all.

We have been having a strange issue when installing programs onto
Window Server 2008 R2. Sometime (not often), some of the files user
access security is set to something that prevents the installing user
from accessing them. Also it is not all of the files that were
installed that is affected, perhaps a few out of 12.

The installation script does not use any set user access or file
attribute commands. Also using the Developer Edition, latest version.

Any ideas or suggestions?

IMO, what happened is the following: user installed package and some files
were "in-use" (locked). As a result, Windows needs a reboot to complete the
installation process. All the replaced files have the security issue now.

Just a theory.

Barton,

Forgot to mention the following.

Two things to try:

1. Avoid a "reboot" scenario (check *before* the real installation process
begins if the files are "in-use" and handle accordingly).

2. Use the "Set Temporary File Folder..." script function and set it to the
installation folder.

I already have the "check before installation" to see if files are in
use. I will make the change for "Set Temporary File Folder" and see if
that helps.

Unfortunately as mentioned, it is erratic so will be awhile before if
that does it.

Thanks for your ideas!
