View Full Version : Changing websites for updates

OK, seems like the company I use (Godaddy) is having a problem with
downloads. I moved my installs to another hosting company (A2)... which
is working.
However, my upgrade installs are still on my site at Godaddy... How can
I change where the download for the upgrades are in my update install? I
know I can change it in my regular install... but I don't want to have
all of my customers have to reinstall a complete install (again) as it
is a PITA here for us.
Thanks,

Ray,
I'm far from expert on SB web installs, so be warned ;-)
What you might try....
Open the Web Deployment tab on your UPDATE install and look in the Enable
Web Update section.
Change the Host Address and Host Directory items to point to a folder on
your new web host server.
Copy all your update files to that folder on the new server.
Save the new update.exe and new server manifest in both the old godaddy
folder and in the new update folder on the new server.
I think that then your existing clients will go to the godaddy site to look
for a manifest, run the installer exe, and it will download the *000x files
from the new site.

Ray,
In addition to what Jane said, look at the GUID for the install. Search
for that value in your registry. Its a key, under which you will find
all the information about where to get the updates. This is what
wcheck.exe and wupdate.exe inspect so they know where to go to check for
updates. You will find its the same values you put in the web install
visualizers (or they should be! <g>).
I've never tried this, but you might want to add some extra logic to the
wupdate.sb8 file to check for the alternate location and ensure that
goes up to the GoDaddy location as well as your new location.
Or have them do a new full install. Either way, sounds like a lot of work.
