On shortcuts is there an easy way to find the correct index number for a
particular icon. The index number I select on the exe file is always the
wrong icon.

Browsing and selecting works for me.
(see pic)
Click the folder button.
Select the .EXE containing the icon.
Select the icon from the display.
Does this not work for you?

Yes, it does, except the number I count on a particular icon don't jive with
the right icon unless I am counting the direction wrong.

You don't have to count, SB does that for you when you select the icon
you want to use.
