Windows 10 Build 10041 tests

Microsoft has finally made the next build of Windows 10 Technical Preview
available. We'll perform SetupBuilder 8.5 tests on the new Windows 10 Build
10041 (March build) this weekend.

The most significant change is a new semi-transparent look of the Start
Menu, with solid tiles floating over it. Fingers crossed that our brand new
solution to pin Shortcuts onto the Windows 10 Start Menu still works in
Build 10041.

From some of the images I've seen it appears that every build makes
the start menu bigger & closer to being what it was... a start page!

I do hope they include an option to turn the transparency off. That
look always seemed unfinished and cluttered to me. You shouldn't do
stuff simply because you can!<g>

Its transparent, but only barely. I dont find it distracting.

The good news is that our soon coming "Pin to Start" SetupBuilder feature
still works fine with the updated Start Menu screen in Windows 10 Build
10041.

Our new "Pin to Start" feature will help quite a few of our customers with a
large installation base to save a significant amount of support costs.

Background: as you probably know, applications which are installed during
deployment can not be automatically pinned to Start in Windows 8.1 and
Windows 10. This is a significant and permanent change in Start Screen
behavior from Windows 8.0. As a result, many computer users can't find the
installed application in Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. So all kind of
departments contact support for help and get instructions similar to this:

1) Swipe up or click the arrow at the bottom of the Start screen to see a
list of all your applications. 2) You may need to scroll left or right to
see the YadaYada group 3) To open YadaYada faster, pin it to your Start
screen or the Taskbar on your desktop. 4) Right-click the application's name
and click either Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar.

Well, it's easy to get lost when the list of instructions gets complicated.
The new upcoming "Pin to Start" SetupBuilder feature lets you do the
impossible -- automatically pin your application to the Start screen (back
to where you deserve it to be) in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
