Even being somewhat prepared for JP's death, it is devastating. It is
inconsolable. It shocks me to the core. I am crying even typing this.
Programming will never be the same for me from now on. Watching a Fomula 1
Grand Prix on a sunny Sunday will never be the same.
A few years ago JP told me that "...Maybe my Alexy and your Emily [my
daughter] could come to meet some day ;)...". And one of his dreams was a
"...white house [in Spain] with my princess overlooking the sea where
dolphins play all year round...".
Some years ago he said to me: "There are days I love my work ..... let us
build our future ourselves!" Impressive. You pushed SetupBuilder through
this strange Microsoft certification. You are the man!
Farewell, good old friend, now is your time to rest. I will never forget
you, JP. I really hope you see the Dolphins now.

well shoot.. make us all cry now!!. JP was a dreamer for sure.. I
remember sending him a database with photos of hundreds of houses in
Cuernavaca, and he actually chose one he like and said he would someday
be here drinking daikiris in the sun... I will miss him terribly..

Hi Friedrich,
http://www.clarionlive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=56:webinar-5-dmc&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=76
and scroll down to the BIO section...
He was just unique, as he said himself in the Bio ' I am not a very
conventional person :-Z '
One of lifes 'good guys', irreplaceable, absolutely irreplaceable :-(

I knew some of that stuff (India, the Jags) but had not seen that bio in his
own words.
Just reinforces the fact he was a huge character, as if any of us didn't
already know that.
Couple of years ago we discussed meeting up - I was planning a holiday in
France that never happened. Now feel very sad I never actually met the man,
but nothing to be done.

So true.

Hi Simon,

Yep, and the bio left a lot of stuff out too !
I think he enjoyed his reputation as the sort of 'enfant terrible' of
the Clarion world :-)
But in truth he was just totally committed to getting the best for his
users even if that sometimes led to 'strained' relations between
himself and SoftVelocity :-)
It's crazy really, it all seems to have happened so fast.

Perhaps someone, Olivier???, is close enough to what's going on that we
could organise some kind of tribute from his friends in the clarion
community.

I just remember the man with the written word was not one I spoke to
often. I think in dealing with non-native languages (from his
viewpoint), he'd preferred the oral instead of written.
Could understand his speech perfectly, hardly a trace of a French accent
(I'm still surprised by this). Enthusiastic is how I would describe
him. He'd get junk calls interrupting us and I was starting to learn
some colorful French words <g>. Never lost his train of thought.
I helped him speed up his code, which he was very thankful for. He also
understood why it was slow and very appreciative to learn something new.
It was a two way street and he loved to impart knowledge as well as
receive it.
He was never too busy for his customers. Except for his princess, whom
it was obvious he loved deeply. He'd tell me "I'll think about your
ideas, but the Princess is calling, so it will wait until tomorrow."
And he did follow up.
We did enjoy making each other laugh. Our inside jokes kinda fell flat
on the newsgroups <g>. I'd call him and ask "JP, are you mad at me?"
He would then laugh.
That is the person I'll remember even though we never met in person.
Thanks JP! :-)

Hello,
I would say something on the newsgroup and no sooner, the digital readout on
my company phone would say "France" - he would just pick up the phone at a
whim and call from France over to me just to discuss something in the
newsgroups - like he was down the street.
It all happened so fast. He didn't even get to come to the newsgroups and
say good-bye. That's what I honestly thought he was going to be able to do.
He just never was able to even come back - it was just so sudden. :-(

Indeed.
I was hoping he would get a chance to weigh in here one more time as well.
It is a solid reminder to us all that life is short ... and very
unpredictable so you need to make the most of each day while you can.

I am watching the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix (Shanghai) qualifying and
staring at my InBox. But no "live comments" from JP. Oh, how I miss that
man. I miss his "Bonjour mon ami" and his "Coffee with Christine now". I
miss his ideas, his questions, his passion and energy, his friendship and
his ability to always look on the bright side of life.
I think he lived his life with great enthusiasm and an optimism that could
not be diminished. He was a dreamer who never let anyone stop him from
living his life as he wanted.
One day he said to me: "When the 'end' approaches the mind starts wandering
and even the good old blues cannot get the mind to rest in peace."
I really thought that if anyone could kick cancer's ass, it would be JP. I
was wrong.
JP will be remembered for years to come for his sincerity, open critical
friendship and observation, and not least his passion for Clarion and DMC.

For years we fought on 'How to's" never on "Why" .
Thread starded here in the group often ended on long phone discussions.
He was a Clarion dedicated man with his vision and a strong will.
Our relation started in 1999, talking about template for the financial
software he was developing at the time. Then came the integration of
some of my utilities in his product before he begun to think about DMC.
He always pushed me to the edge to make sure that the product would be
ok for the customer as it was his mean concern 'satisfy your customer'.
He has left a mark in the Clarion developers community and will be
remembered for what he has done.

After two weeks with no internet I come back to this devastating news. I
always felt he was immortal with this wit, humour, tolerance for and
sometimes little tolerance for others views but above all that was his
dedication to Clarion. He was a passionate man with a mission. RIP JP.

Yeah, buddy.
I really really like and respect that man.
Although I've flung some armor piercing turd rockets at him on the
NGs, our private email exchanges (and one brief telephone
conversation) were filled with mutual respect.
He breathed life into the community, added value, made me laugh, made
me cringe (sometimes a lot<g>), and made me think.
He was a smart smart person and fit right in there at least as well as
any of us.
And I can't think of anything negative about him.
