Nice clean new site.

One thing that has always bugged me is the naming convention used in SB.

In your description of the Developer Edition, it states that it is for developers
wanting " to create PROFESSIONAL software installations..." (my uppercasing to show
highlight).

Then in the Professional Edition, it says "for the cost-conscious DEVELOPER... "

I would normally expect a "Professional" version to be the top-of-the-tree
professional version." Even Softvelocity screw this up.

So, my two versions would have been Professional and Simple or something like that,
but I guess it is too late now to make any change.

I agree. 12+ years ago we had SetupBuilder 4.x "Standard Edition" and "Web
Edition". Standard Edition was the low-end product, Web Edition the
high-end flagship. But with the introduction of SetupBuilder 5.0 (and after
returning from a business meeting in Chicago; Russ and Steve might remember
<g>) I changed the product names to "Professional Edition" and "Developer
Edition". And yes, this was a "suboptimal" decision <g>. Too late to take
it back.

I have modified the text a bit now for better explanations.

First of all, I hate website development <g>. It's a complex and
resource-hungry process.

It took three days to find a suitable website style (Template Monster,
ThemeForest, etc.) and stock photos. Then, after two days working hard on
"breathing life" into the website, it turned out that it did not fit into
the concept. Start from scratch and after another two days of searching,
new suitable website style found. Two weeks later the new SetupBuilder
website went live. I need vacation <g>.

Yes. But you'd be surprised how many people still use computers with Vista
<G>.

The problem with testimonials these days is that you are often not allowed
to mention company names (especially if they are "trademarked") or even the
name of its author. I have some very nice SetupBuilder testimonials, but no
permission (their company policy) to publish the person's name, or the
company name or link to their websites. Anyone can write a testimonial, and
site visitors don't know what to believe. Anonymous testimonials are almost
worthless, because readers know you could easily have made them up.

I'm looking into something similar for Icetips and it's a daunting
task. Start with a template or start from scratch? I usually find that
the templates don't work after I've been messing with them for a while,
wasting my time. Thousands of lines of php code - not all of it good
looking<g> that needs to be ported and squeezed in - or rewritten which
takes a lot of time and resources. Wish there was a magic wand...

I am using CoffeeCup Web Editor on my MacBook Pro and the Visual Studio IDE
("HTML" view only to fine-tune the code) on Windows.

I always start from a template which makes use of a rock solid framework
with maximum browser backward compatibility. Quite a few templates are
written sloppy and after awhile you realize they are a dead end. I lost 5
full days this time with the first template.

The template and stock photos are the inexpensive part of the process. It's
very time consuming to modify the underlying code and breathe life into the
site. And it still has to fit into your "old" corporate style. A start
from scratch is too expensive and resource intensive (IMO) if you need a
fully responsive and mobile-friendly site.

I've been looking into responsive frameworks rather than templates -
never found a template that I liked and worked, I'm sure they exist but
never found one;)

Problem with a lot of frameworks is that they are written for people who
breath CSS, HTML5, jQuery and all those things not for the more casual
web developers, but I have found a couple that look good. Currently
experimenting with Responsee II (http://www.myresponsee.com/) and
http://www.responsivegridsystem.com/ also looks interesting. I've
looked at Bootstrap but it seems to be for web nerds<g>

has quite a few neat templates. One huge advantage is there are also
"admin console" templates that will allow you to create dynamic
data-driven sites as well and integrate into the main site

We use Nettalk Webserver to push data services to Bootstrap ... easy peasy.

I don't know if it's just the previews or if there is a problem with
those templates but the text looks awfully small on my phone. They look
fine in a browser at just about all sizes on my computer(s) but not my
phone. I've been looking into bootstrap with wrapbootstrap templates,
but had second thoughts when they looked so so small... See attached
screenshot of one of the templates. The main text looks good but the
rest is practically unreadable.

I just wanted to add that lindersoft.com looks _fantastic_ on my phone
as does the icetips blog at blog.icetips.com which I'm using a
responsive WordPress template for.

I may have to experiment with the bootstrap templates, buy one and see
where it takes me.

1. which browser you are using on the phone
- Safari, Chrome, FF all seem to render fine for the template we chose

2. perhaps the specific template may need some tweaking based on the
fonts used

overall, pretty happy with the results we've been able to achieve

I have tried Chrome and whatever browser is built in to this thing. They
both show the same rendering. I think this may be just the way the
templates are presented. They are put inside some kind of a frame on
the website so I'm thinking that may mess with it as the phone browser
see the "wrapping" website and scales it, and the template may not scale
properly inside it.

Sure, not unreasonable at all. I will experiment with this a bit over
the weekend and see what happens.
