Hopefully we won't have people NOT installing our demo because of this.

I wouldn't panic yet Ray,

There are gaziliions of Windows programs out there, and only a very tiny
fraction of them are in the MS Store.
This is certainly a play to encourage people to put apps in the store, and
perhaps to make some users more aware that the store even exists,
but we are many, many years away from there being a generic "I only get from
the app store" attitude.

No panic here... I have setupbuilder. However, I wouldn't mind being on
the windows store. But I'll bet it won't be near as easy as being on
Google Play. I would imagine there would be some blowback from
developers around the world if they don't make it easy.

I just worry about users stopping the installation when it gets a
warning from MS. Anything that stops our demo from being downloaded
and/or installed is a great hindrance to our business. We call everyone
that downloads, and I can tell you it helps. When code signing became a
requirement, just before we had it.. there were people that didn't
continue the install.

We'll see. As long as Friedrich is aware, it's all good.

Doesn't the MS App store only have what used to be called "Metro" apps?
I have never downloaded a desktop app from the store!

As far as I know, his goal was Windows 10 compatibility.

Hi Arnor,

It used to be the App store only had "Metro" apps, but with Windows 10, the
Metro apps don't have to be full-screen anymore, and can look and behave
similar to desktop apps.

And actual desktop apps such as Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Acrobat
Pro are available for download from the Windows App Store.

Cool! I saw in Maarten's posts that he uses a Desktop app converter
(https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bridges/desktop I
suppose) which converts "normal" apps to app store apps. That's pretty
cool!
