View Full Version : Permissions On File Changed After Install

Hi All
I am not sure if our SetupBuilder install set could have done the
following - change the permission status of an ISAM file that it is
replacing in a folder. Is this possible?
The reason I ask is that a client phoned in with one of files no longer
visible from any workstation. Upon investigation it had a little
padlock below the icon. Could running an install into the folder have
done that?
Cheers
Andre

No. SetupBuilder does *not* change the permission status of a file or
folder.
But if you have a locked file situation and Windows needs a reboot to
replace a locked (in-use) file, then it's very well possible that Windows
changes the permission. Windows does not copy over the permission entries
in this case.
To avoid this, you can try the following: A.) check if there are no locked
(in-use) files before doing the update -and/or- B.) set the temporary file
folder for SetupBuilder to the installation folder (using "Set Temporary
File Folder..." script function).
