I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, SetupBuilder Developer is truly the only installer you’ll ever need. With a rich set of features for both rapid setup development and the most complete set of features for even the most demanding jobs, SetupBuilder beats them all with one hand tied behind its back. For years I was struggling to find an installer solution for distributing internal content (mainly documents and presentations) and I was either not impressed with a clear lack of features, the fact that I effectively had to be a certified expert in install development to use it, or the ridiculous price of solutions that might do the job. Enter SetupBuilder Developer with all the features of the “big name” installers but without all the drawbacks. In about 30 minutes I can have a basic installer out and on the intranet ready for internal distribution using nothing more than the point-and-click visualizers, and then if I need to drop down to a low-level script to tweak things under the hood it’s just a click away. Before working with SetupBuilder I thought programming anything let alone an installer was complicated drawn out process that I’d need to take a college level class to accomplish and I’m a 26-year old disabled person who does volunteer customer support work, I don’t have the time or the patience to go to college to pick up skills like that with all my medical issues. As a result, I’m very impressed with how easy Lindersoft has made it to for just about anyone to snap together an enterprise grade installer without being a rocket scientist. Even when I do hit a snag because I need to do some task or another, Lindersoft is ready to help with both community forums and email support. I’ve never seen a company that stands behind its product that seriously. Once Lindersoft is backing your development project with install solutions, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without it. On a side note, SetupBuilder has become kind of legendary tool in my organization because it can do so much with so little time. The legendary nature of the product has prompted us to have “Installer competitions” internally where we compete for speed of development, installer correctness, installer UX, installer esthetics, and a myriad of other categories. Installer development is kind of an artform here and colleagues spend months preparing for the annual “build off” to get those bragging rights they built this year’s blockbuster installation project that everyone now wants in production installs next. and it’s a fun time.
Thanks Lindersoft for the good times and great tools!
