In July, an U.S. Government agency switched to SetupBuilder, especially
because it does not use any component from Russia (that's what they told
me). And yes, they already had this information! At this point it pays off
that I have developed our own high-performance compression technology
(LSPack) from scratch in the good old 90's <g>. Most installation systems
(with EXE generator) are using Russian based compression; SetupBuilder uses
LSPack :-)

Not sure what counts as being "from Russia" these days, but as a
Clarion user (and 50% Russian blooded<g>) I am not sure I'd want to
invite too much scrutiny/audit in that regard.

It is not beyond the stretch of (my<g>) imagination that the bar of
scrutiny gets moved, and we'll all be scrambling to justify our own
software's existence in a fit of xenophobia.

I can go on for longer than that. The only time we would stop using SB
is if it no longer existed.

I use 7zip for my built-in backup program. I have a little trouble on
some (like 3) machines.. not sure why. I use the command line interface
to do the zipping. Can I do that with lspack, and where is the website?
I couldn't find any links from the lindersoft.com site.

I have not tried it either, but I have not seen any evidence of
Kapersky doing anything wrong (yet). On the other hand, several US
companies have admitted doing sleazy things for the US government, so
it could happen (either way).

Probably just unfortunate that a company gets punished for something
unrelated, that their bureaucrats are suspected of doing.

So ... is your new security software made in China?? 8-)

LSPack is an exclusive part of the SetupBuilder project now. It's not
available as a 3rd-party product.

But LSZip is industry-standard PKWARE 2.04g archive format compatible:

Still got an old standalone version that works a treat. It is part of
SB now - obviously enhanced muchly. Not sure if it can be used
separately from SB with the latest SB.

If you are using 7zip to support the industry-standard PKWARE 2.04g archive
standard (which is also supported in Windows itself) then "yes". If you are
using 7zip to create .7z or other non-2.04g archives then "no".
