View Full Version : Server migration (Saturday, October 27, 2018)
NewsArchive

All,
we'll migrate to a new server this coming weekend (October 27-28). We'll
disable our vBulletin system Saturday morning and re-enable it after the
migration process (this might take 48 hours).
Our sites (including SetupBuilder web update) might be on and off until
sometime Sunday afternoon, but never completely down for more than ten
minutes.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and appreciate your
patience.

Don't forget to reduce your TTL :)
Currently TTL=172800

Yes, interesting. I think it's completely out of my control - this two day
"time to live" setting is the default and standard value. IMO, it's all
about money - seems to be very expensive ($$$) to set it to, say, 60
seconds.

Nah, you should hopefully be able to do this temporarily. Check your
ISP and/or registrar. For example:

The idea is to do this several days in advance so that all of the DNS
caches will know to load your changes ASAP when the switch is made.
When you're done, change the TTL to normal.

Hi Jeff,
good news. Our registrar told me that our TTL is 1 hour time.
I am curious what domain(s) reported 172800 (48 hours).

It's dirt simple to lookup for any domain, use nslookup...

I guess I was looking at the wrong place on the page. I saw the
"parent" nameserver test at the top.

All,
our end of the server migration is complete.
- The vBulletin support forum is back online.
- SetupBuilder Web Update is back online.
- SetupBuilder download platform is back online.
- The Redistributable platform is back online.
- All name servers for our domains are updated. However, it takes 24-48
hours for the changes to fully take effect worldwide.
Have a great weekend!

It all depends on caching DNS servers, luckily I'm not behind one!<g>

It won't be long before we'll be seeing those longwinded IPv6
monstrosities that no one in their right mind can read!<g>
Yours would be something like 0:0:0:0:0:ffff:d85c:fd69 and it's a good
thing it's not required right now since Comcast doesn't support IPv6
yet! Bad Comcast.... BAD!<g>

There are some domain artifacts that currently resolve to your IP.

If you go to http://storagecop.com or http://bi-gadgets.com, you end
up at Lindersoft.<g>

Super interesting. You are completely right, thank you for the information.
Both domains resolve to my IP - it's like magic <g>.
https://www.setupbuilder.com stopped working because the SSL migration
process failed. Fixed now.

We have three "new" IP addresses: 216.92.44.110, 66.39.52.11 and
216.92.253.105.
Interesting to note that ping www.storagecop.com resolves to 62.138.239.45
and ping www.bi-gadgets.com resolves to 35.193.149.198 (www.mytech.com).
Not anywere in the range of our new IPs. Hmmm.... a nd tracert, e.g.
www.bi-gadgets.com gives only "Request timed out" from here.

The prefix "www" on a domain does not necessarily always equate to the
domain name without the prefix.

Switched to Google DNS and it's working fine again. Some DNS still point to
216.92.253.105 instead of the new 216.92.89.46.
Thanks again, Jeff.
